hip hop was started so that ppls beef wouldnt lead to violence, so they expressed it and battled each other in different ways such as emceeing, dance, battles of the dj's etc so that ultimately when ppl were beefin it would be peaceful. i agree 100% with the bit about the marketing, all that mainstream media played beef is bullshit, half them rappers r buddies lol and yeah sites like this take it to the extreme, with everybody bitchin about something. like a decade ago hip-hop was basic, none of this commercial culture and money was never attracted to the game back then. and now its changed alot. and some people just dont get that.

Heres how I look at it, and why I started to be involved in hip-hop

Okay, first off, my favorite type of Rap/Hip-Hop is the Freestyle / Battle types, because this is the most difficult type, and I consider it as a verbal sport, because you can improve, compete, win, lose and such. And there is the rhyming, expression, punchline, and all that stuff to make you sound incredible *Drools, I'm in love with rap*
I like hip-hop because people can be made to look bad almost as if they were beaten up, but with out actually being beaten up or jumped. But hoenstly, when you lose a battle, people do get mad, and then for some reason, they think they can get back by harming the winner of a battle, or anyone who competes. This has got to stop, like they said on Grand Theft Auto : SA Rappers and Gangsters are different, Gangsters are the ones poppin pistols, not rappers, but it's become that way now.
