The Life Of Tookie

IP: 22A7 431D

Tookie's birth. . .
On December 29, 1953, in New Orleans Charity Hospital, I entered the world kicking and screaming in a caesarean ritual of blood and scalpels. Because this was 1950s, pre-Civil-Rights Louisiana, my 17-year-old mother, a "colored woman," was deprived of anesthetics as her torso was slit from sternum to pubic bone. Over and over again, she sang the Christmas carol Silent Night to distract her from the pain.

I was christened Stanley Tookie Williams III, but mostly referred to as Tookie.

Thus begins an extraordinary, unconventional American success story. Stanley "Tookie" Williams - a former youth gang leader and Crips co-founder, current San Quentin Death Row prisoner, and now a children's book author and Nobel Peace Prize nominee for the past four years - has written his memoir, Blue Rage, Black Redemption, an tumultuous, revealing work. The book is printed in a quality trade paperback format so that prisoners may receive the book via the U.S. mail.

For more details, send an email to orders@damamli.com, or call Damamli Publishing Company at 925-705-1612. To order a copy of Blue Rage, Black Redemption, click here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of Tookie's proceeds from the sale of this book will be invested in programs to assist at-risk children. He will receive none of his book's revenues.

Inside South Central Los Angeles. . .
These hustlers would bet on just about anything - even who could spit, urinate, or throw a rock the farthest. I have witnessed cockfights, cricket fights, even fish fights, and pay-per-view street fights between individuals from 6 to 50 years of age.

The Gang As Family. . .
Barring the relationship with my mother, the closest reality to family for me was the Crips. In the ultimate display of fatherhood irresponsibility I had forsaken my sons to barnstorm throughout South Central Los Angeles in the name of "Crippen." I had only faint memories of my first-born son Travon when he was a baby. I only saw him when I periodically showed up to have sex with his mother Bonnie. In reality I was no more than a sperm donor who took the position that once the job was done, more fathering wasn't necessary.

At Last, Redemption. . .
I was beginning to understand that my experiences with the dysfunctional status quo of the prison culture - as well as drug addiction, poverty, gangsterism, racism, and other roadblocks - had become the excuses that defined my life. But no longer would my life, my being, be dictated by blind ignorance. Nor would I ever again allow the excuse of circumstance to dictate who I should be. It was daily studying and questioning that prompted my soul searching. I began to develop a sense of critical reasoning from which sprang the first stirrings of conscience. This was the moment when redemption infused itself into my life.

WHAT YALL THINK THEY KILLED HIM FOR SOME BULLSHIT

sounds like this might be a book worth getting for every black youth in America, especially in the 'hood...if I get it and enjoy it and it has good insights I'll definetly recommend it...thus far it's sounding like something I will appreciate and enjoy learning from as a whole, not just because it's him cuz before this stuff I never knew about him...

honestly I could give a FUCK less about Crips or Bloods, but a person that changed their life that much would definetly have a lot to say that many of us could learn from

R.I.P. DAWG..... R.I.P.

i watched the news footage of the execution early this morning.... They never really proved that he killed those people... He maintained his inoncence for 25 years.... never changing his story... he admits he wasn't a good person and feels that it is karma that got him to the death chamber... they say Gov. Schwartzenegger didn't grant clemency because he never showed remorse for the murders... how can you show remorse for sumn that you know you didn't do?.... with that said.... Tookie did say he felt for the families loss... but he would not feel REMORSE for sumn he didn't do... it would be like a confession if he did... the most powerful thing about the execution is that he never once resisted.... Tookie was ready to die .... as a man... he actually spoke to the guards throughout the whole procedure.... he never cried... never fought it... at one point, it is even said that he asked the guards if they were doing it right...it took 35 minutes for them to "MURDER" Tookie Williams... It should have only taken minutes... which added to everyone's frustration... the whole time people were praying and hoping that the last ditch effort of clemency had come.... it hadn't... the Gov. refused to budge... his supporters were there for his execution.... in the chamber with him... praying.... telling him everything was aiight....they blew kisses to him... and raised the Black Panther symbol high into the air several times... the Black Fist... a symbol of power for the African American communities.... and no one knows this better than California; the place where Mr. Williams was put to death. At the end of the execution, one of the victims family members cried uncontrollably when Tookie's supporters stood up one last time... after the declaration that Stanley Tookie Williams was now dead... and they held up the Black Fist and yelled in unison... " The state of California has just executed an innocent man!"...and then they left...

Any man who can start sumn as big as the CRIPs and admit he was wrong and denounces gang violence, writes children's books, and gets nominated for a pulitzer for his work has got to be a reformed man in my opinion... I can't stand gangs... i grew up around them... luckily i made it through... never once joining one or falling victim to one...

i'm sure the truth will come out one day ..and Tookie will be vindicated... he won't get his life back but the world will see how our US politicians are just as jacked up as the rest of the world... the base everything on how Tookie grew up... that he started the CRIPs... they never once cared about any of his other accomplishments.... they wanted the ringleader and they used Tookie to send a message.... on one hand... I hope it does send a message.... Gang violence ain't worth it... put down your guns and knives.... give life a chance...

and i hope it's da end of Gov Schwartz"koff's" political AND acting careers...

Tookie didn't die this morning... He lived to be a martyr amongst his people
