I hate to burst some bubbles, but...

IP:

When a emcee on RV posts a track with a famous sample on it, and tons of people drool over the track, it's mostly because of the sample. I'm specifically talking about Black's "Loving You" song. Now, Black is my dawg and is a dope rapper. But, that track was average at best as far as "rapping" goes. The song that sample came from is a classic and loved by MANY, MANY people. Therefore, it's no surprise it would have a similar effect on people when it's converted to a rap song. Black, you got skills on the mic, but, that song was mediocre at best with an AMAZING sample.

The same can be said about Ike and Trip's "Close my eyes" song, which was good at best. The song that sample is derived from is very nice, which gives the illusion the song is better than it actually is.

So, as a whole, a song might be "enjoyable" to listen to. But, that doesn't necessarily make it a dope "rap" song because the "rapping" in it is nothing to write home about.
