in my opinion...the most influential hip hop artists (in terms of making the genre evolve) aren't very big into hip hop...i'm not saying they don't enjoy it but they listen to other genres of music for the majority.

J, some are some aren't. I think the most influential to us and the most influential to the mainstream listeners varies drastically. If you let someone listen to Nas and then listen to 50 Cent, I'll put money that the mainstream listeners will listen more to 50.

Pac was really basic, but his content was deep. So basic isn't that bad, it all depends on the content for me. I mean, if someone goes

Ay man.. I agree compleatly that the rap artists who are really great are the ones who listen to all genres of music and have a much wider understanding of the music industry..

BUT...

Most those cats you mentioned are nowhere near big time influencial and evolving the rap game.. Nas maybe.. But most of the names on that list arnt big enough to totally influence and evolve the hip hop culture....

But I do agree with the point being made in this thread... I jus think it could of been made better......
