Let me set one record straight. I'm well aware that in order to reach certain goals in life, you have to "play along" in certain circumstances to achieve certain results. With that said, any goal-oriented successful person is a "conformist" to a certain degree. However, when I say I hate conformity, I'm talking about the everyday, mundane facets of life we all face. I hate the fact that society dictates what's acceptable and we all buy into like dumb ass puppets. Society tells us:

A) What looks good
B) What we should wear
C) How we should act
D) What's "acceptable" or not


^^^^I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." But, how many of us deny ourselves true happiness because we refuse to step out and take a chance being our true selves. Are we afraid? Why is it we do things knowing we don't agree with them just to "fit in". Who dictates to us what we should and shouldn't regard as truth for ourselves?

I'm sick of society's bullshit. I think most of you will never reach your true potential in life because you're blinded. You actually think clothes makes "the man." You actually think the kind of car you drive (and probably can't truly afford) makes you anything more than a poser. On that note, a car is basic transportation until you can truly afford otherwise. And, having a CAR NOTE is NOT being able to afford a car. People who need "cool cars" to be "cool" aren't cool at all. Yet, society tells us that if you ride the bus, you're a "loser." Open your minds people. Realize that life is more than what you wear, what you eat, where you live, and even who you are. Life is about love. Life is about leaving your current state and transcending to another, bettering the universe as you go along.

How many times have you denied yourself because you were afraid of what someone would say or think?

Elevate your mind set. Stop conforming. Be yourself.

So, if I have a car note then I am conforming? I am paying on my mini van which I needed for the abundance of space it provides. I didn't have $10,000 to just pay for it in cash, so I am paying installments....is that conforming?

No. That's not the context in which I said that. I'm saying that many people go broke trying to "keep up with the Joneses". I feel that you should buy what you want. But, I know that in many cases, people put themselves in debt and in a bad predicament just to say, "look, I got the latest THIS or THAT." That's what I'm talking about. About the car, no one wants a complete piece of trash. But, there are lots of people living "hood rich"--i.e., riding "pretty" but aren't doing anything else.

Stop speaking english. Be original. Stop following the logic that yourself means completly different from everyone else. Society's not gonna love everything everyone does. You can't always assume you're above everyone. And if you wanna question conformity, tell me where this quote came from: "How can two walk together unless they are agreed?".

Don't know where the quote came from. And, I answered the first part of what you said with my first sentence.

My point, again, is this: Do what you want to do, if you truly want to do it. I'm not someone who preaches "be different just to be different." I'm specifically referring to people who cancel out their views just to adopt the views of others out of fear.

Well the quote came from the bible. And I definetly feel you on being yourself, but you gotta think about think of the bigger picture. If nobody cared what other people think we'd all be selfish. No one would care about anyone and we'd only be concerned with ourselves. While it eliminates inner tormoil it kind of causes alot of conflict socially.

neway...What I'm saying isn't speaking on not caring what other people think. That's the main problem, people care so much about what other people "think" they neglect their own views. The fact of the matter is this: Most people are mindless drones, doing whatever is clever at the moment. It takes courage and strength to stand up and say, "I'm going to be myself, even if it means being alienated from most others." When the grain is going east, you go west, not for the sake of being different, but because that's where you heart takes you. I venture to say that most people would go east with the grain simply out of fear of reproach.

Society dictates to us what's "in" or not. And, seeing people follow fads, regadless of how ridiculous it is, is sickening.

To me, most people:

A)Think the same
B) Speak the same
C) Act the same
D) Look the same

It's almost a sin to not be yourself because it denies the universe that special element that's unique to "you".
