Crooners Ne-Yo and Trey Songz will showcase a bit more than their vocal skills when they hit the runway for fashion designer Karl Kani at the BMI Urban Showcase on April 27. Rapper/producer Lil Jon and radio personality Emperor Searcy are on tap to host the showcase at Atlanta’s Vision Nightclub.
The night kicks off with Ne-Yo and Songz, along with former "America’s Next Top Model" contestant Nik, showcasing clothes from Kani’s latest fashion line, Live, Life & Love Denim, and the Atlanta Beach swimsuit line. Outkast’s Big Boi and Young Jeezy are also set to attend the event. Next, four finalists selected from a nationwide pool of more than 300 submissions, will perform for celebrity judges, such as hitmakers Jazze Pha, DJ Toomp and Sean Garrett; rapper Jody Breeze and Block Enterprises CEO Russell “Block” Spencer. The winner(s) will receive a prize package that includes an Apple iPod, airfare, accommodations and two tickets to the 2006 BMI Urban Awards. The lucky winner will also win two tracks produced by BMI Grammy-nominated production team Cool & Dre.
The night’s primary purpose is to provide unsigned BMI affiliates with the opportunity to perform before music industry professionals. “This annual event is another way that BMI supports the urban music community in Atlanta and on the national scene,” BMI’s VP of Writer/Publisher Relations Catherine Brewton said press release
