the cutout is horrible, the border goes into it at one point, the text is too basic...
not bad for a first try tho, keep workin on it

did u use the magic wand tool or background eraser?
u shouldnt unless the background's a solid color and different from the picture...
otherwise, u should zoom into the picture and use the eraser tool to cut out the part u want...

for the border, here's what to do...
1. ctrl-click on the picture layer (selects area)
2. select the border layer, w/o deselecting picture
3. use eraser... it will only delete the part of the border thats inside the picture

also, try playing around with filters/adjustments/brushing/blending
filters- good for adding blurs to the picture... try this.... duplicate a layer, gaussian blur the duplicate, and overlay it...
adjustments- in the image menu... good for color schemes, and changing brightness
brushing- adds texture... make a new layer, and play around with the brushes... then lower the opacity so u can see the background behind it... also good for color schemes...
blending- right click on a layer, and select blending options... just try playing around wit the settings... very useful for text...
another important tool is fading (edit menu)... after u apply brushing, filters, strokes, etc, u can use the fade tool to change the opacity of ur last modification....

Its actually not bad for a first attempt, but it is horrible as a sig.

the text needs a LOT of work, try changing the blending options and shit.

yeh, the cutout is horrible, id say use psd's till you get used to photshop a bit more.

border is pretty bad aswell, too thick.

youlled off the overhang nearly well tho.
