Help am i a poet or rap artist.

I just got my ass beat in my first battle and I know this probably typical but My question is: Is there a difference between people who can freestyle poetry and freestyle rap? Don't laugh just help.
The reason I ask is I think I'm more poetry minded than rap minded.
