so then there is a skill category outside of lyricism, that an emcee can have?

the most skilled barking emcee? DMX

how narrowminded of me

well that doesn't seem logical to me...

you can't have flow unless you have good lyrics, i mean i pay no mind to flow if the lyrics are shitty, but i could listen to tight lyrics and think it has bad flow.... do i make any sort of sense?

mmm... maybe we have diff. meanings of what constitutes as good lyrics

i guess i feel that an emcee's skill should first and foremost be lyricism... i don't typically gauge emcee's on flow... that is secondary to lyrics in my opinion...

^ flow is how liquidy they sound... if they fit the beat... if they can control their breath properly... it has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual content of the lyrics...

I judge rappers in 3 categories:
Flow
Delivery
Lyrics (split into wordplay and rhyming)

id rather have an awesome flow and average lyrics than awesome lyrics and a crappy flow

anyway, answering your question... the most lyrically skilled MC's, in no order:

Rakim
Canibus
Redman
Nas
Big L
GZA
Eminem
Cormega
Method Man
KRS-One

it is first and foremost lyricism, but you cant understand the lyrics as good with out the flow....they kinda go hand in hand...you have to have both or it wont be as good
