American Tragedy

IP:

My roots reach back to a small town called Tunnel Springs
A place where childrens voices are choked out before they eva sing
Gettin a decent job and an education is a far off dream
That there is impossible to the inhabitants it would seem
Dont nobody wanna even move up in the food chain
They content with livin in a shack wit no toilet or drain
To a kid from the city, this dont make no sense
Barely makin a livin, bein happy with cents
Comin up i was always told to do the best that i can
They different down there, they got no direction, no plan
They lettin white folks talk em down any kind a way
Cant band together, too busy fightin each other all day
Believin heavily in the lies they been taught
Not even botherin to express the rights for which they daddys fought
They whine but they dont vote, they all in the same boat
Aint got no opinions they just sit back and take note
And the local education system is just a big ass joke
Students behind the buildin gettin lost in the crack smoke
My father was only 1 of 2 kids to make it out
Him and my uncle found out what the struggle was about
Recognized they situation and finally over came
Too bad this generation just dont feel the same...
It's a Tragedy

Its an American Tragedy, one that remains unseen
Country niggas on they porches, toothless and lookin mean
Too ignorant to realize that education is the key
Its too little too late, this town's blind and can't see

I got a cousin who lives in the place, sadness always on his face
Looks at his father as a fuckin disgrace, comin home in a drunken pace
He wanna get out, move away from his livin hell
He losin his mind, his emotions is gettin hard to tell
I try to steer him in the right direction, keep em line
But its hard givin advice, when he got bigger problems than mine
He got a good mother but she never at home
Gangsta rap, hardcore, straight infectin his dome
Used to be a quiet kid, but now he pop at the mouth
Talkin shit, throwin bows, whoopin niggas down south
He gettin in trouble, rollin with the wrong crowd
Thinkin life all about livin big and talkin loud
I asked him one night what he gone be doin in ten years
He said "Man I aint concerned its all about the now and here"
And thats the common mentality of a young black man
Thats why so many of us fall into the white mans hands
And the vicious cycle will continue to repeat itself
Unless we put our fists up and start to better ourselves
Cuz this town called Tunnel Springs is just one small example
There's a million others out there with similar cases to sample
And no matter which one you go to you'll always think of this
"Ignorance is Bliss"

Its an American Tragedy, one that remains unseen
Country niggas on they porches, toothless and lookin mean
Too ignorant to realize that education is the key
Its too little too late, this town's blind and can't see

Drop some feedback and tell me what yall think, and for yall white kids this aint racist or nothin its just truth. 1
