Meet Lester Mendes, A man in an everlasting fight
With himself, Sittin in a chair looking back at his life
He had ignored all rules and a person’s usual rights
Yet managed to start a family with a beautiful wife
His kids got all his attention, He never minded the lies
Thinking his wife cheated while he worked nine to five
He could see it in her eyes, But he lacked surprise
Drowning his sorrows with liquor to mask his cries
But not to over analyze, Lester continued his love
For his family, But eventually started abusing drugs
A loser’s hug, He needed to do more than light spliffs
To fight this habit, So he took on janitorial night shifts
With his sight wrecked, He couldn’t see he was losing touch
With his family and reality, All the pressures were ballooning up
Soon enough he had no money, Now what was he worth?
Nothing to nobody, His life was disgusting, Absurd
After losing both jobs, He was kicked out of the house
Now living with roaches in leaky motels in the South
Away from his spouse caused drug-filled dreams of a corpse
Of course he read “We need a divorce, See you in court”
On a letter he received from his wife a month after he left
He felt helpless, Like being driven as a passenger to death
With liquor in his chest, Lester reached under the desk
Gripped the gun and mumbled something under his breath

He woke up in sweat, Rubbed his face, It was hot as hell
His eyes focused, He gasped, Cuz he was locked in a cell
He rushed to the bars, Called the guard like “this can’t be real?!?”
The guard calmly replied back “tell that to the family you killed”
Lester started to feel faint and tried to contemplate the events
That were put before him, ‘This must be a mistake’ he laments
He couldn’t feel any regret, He sat there and racked his brain
Trying to think back, But he never did react to pain
In any way, Anyway, All he could hear was the rain
Thunder and lightning sounded so close to the window pane
Brainstorming, Lester called out “I want my lawyer!!”
The guard snickered, “It’s over, We’ve appointed one for ya…
Don’t you remember?” he asked confused, “Accept it and let go”
“Remember what?” Lester screamed, “Your guilty on death row”
said the guard really slow, Lester’s lip started to quiver
thinking back to his wife & why it was so hard to forgive her

“This isn’t my life” he said silently, Shotgun in his hand
The liquor in his system the only thing not stopping his plan
Lester got in his Grand Am, Started driving drunk like Stan
Going out to find his wife’s lover to put a slug in that man
Listening to his favorite metal band, Getting hyped to do it
But couldn’t see the road wit no windshield wiper fluid
He was drunk and armed, A dangerous combination
As his tires swerved off road and into an imbankment
Unconscious for so long, Lester would regret that drive
Out the window was his pride and all sense of time
Drugged yet again, Lester stumbled around and cried
Pictures of his happy past were so real in his eyes
He couldn’t believe his mind, What had happened to the guy?
Who loved his family so much that he worked a nine to five
Head to the sky, He realized what those drugs had done
Gave him illusions of killing both of his loving sons
Plus his wife who never cheated, Lester felt defeated
In a drunken haze, Disgusted at himself to even dream it
Just then he woke up again, But at night this time
Lester looked over and saw his wife at his side
He leaned over and kissed her, Stroking her wavy hair
“What was that for?” she whispered, Lester just lay there
A sunny Sunday afternoon, Guess he didn’t go back far
Lester was at home, Playing with his kids in the backyard
“Honey, dinners ready” said his wife in a loving way
“Coming sweetie” Lester smiled cuz this was another day
Only happiness he felt, This was what he wanted
No lies or deceit, He only ever tried to be honest
With himself and his loved ones, Living happy and free
He had gained a purpose not many could actually breath
The light was close at one point, And now he could see
Through a clouded mind that once almost shattered his dreams
If God asked him to speak, Then he’d preach close to death
Last words in his head, Lester smiled and said “no regrets”

Just then he started to sweat, Because his limbs wouldn’t move
Recalling his lawyer saying “reasonable doubt we couldn’t prove”
His eyes came into focus, Lester was intently looking around
He saw the angry faces of relatives, Followed by a shocking sound
Something was gaining power now, So he started to struggle
Remembering his own shotgun blasts coming from his muzzle
Lester gasped in fear, Cried out but his lips were sealed
For the first time in a long time, Everything was crystal clear
Locked away for years, But he couldn’t expect to care
“No regrets” he just said strapped in the electric chair
He was blatantly aware, His sight back to record the lies
In his mind, It was all his life flashing before his eyes
Good and bad times, A lesson he would get back never
The moment before you die is a second that lasts forever
Stuck in both Hell and Heaven for all of eternity’s wish
Lester closed his eyes…surrendered…they pulled the switch…

A Life Lost

Feedback please

Damn...Damn...Damn, This shit was fuckin amazing. The imagery was great, vocab was tight, evn had a few multi's thrown in there. All that was great, but the storyline set it all off perfect.
