Kevin Lyles the former Intern at Def Jam Records who rose to President and CEO of Def Jam Records and now sits as Executive Vice President of Warner Music Group is slated to drop a book in September.
The executive who was removed from his post at DefJam by L.A. Reid due to what some reports cited as "a clash of styles" and what some insiders called "petty differences" is now to release a book entitled "Make it Happen: The Hip Hop Generation Guide to Success" Liles has worked with the biggest names in hip hop, including Jay Z, P.Diddy, Ashanti, DMX, Kanye West, LL Cool J, Ja Rule and Ludicris. Liles also oversaw the development and creation of the brands Def Jam South, Def Soul, Def Soul Classics, Roc-A-Fella and Murder Inc. In the book Liles will share real life stories from his experiences growing Def Jam Music with partners Russell Simmons and Lyor Cohen from a multi-million dollar label into a world-renowned, multi-hundred-million-dollar brand that transcends demographics and is recognized around the globe. Today, at Warner Music Group, Kevin Liles is under the leadership of Edgar Bronfman, Jr. and his mentor, Lyor Cohen, and Liles works with WMG’s collection of the record labels, including Atlantic and Warner Bros., as well as WMG’s distribution, marketing and music publishing companies.
