My new Set up: The Samsung C01u Condenser Mic
IP:
After Ill Grammatix told me about it yesterday and reading a review of it, I decided to go to a local guitar shop called "Hot Licks" to purchase the Samsung (pronounced Samson as indicated by Implicit) C01u USB Condenser mic. I also purchased the shock mount and a stand for it. For the first time, I will be standing while I record. I had problems with my cool edit because it wouldn't let me play anything. So, after reinstalling it, I was able to test the microphone. The first thing I noticed was the lack of noise generated while recording. I normally have to contend with hiss and other sounds. But, with this mic, there is very little noise generated by the mic or through my computers circuitry. IN fact, I normally run HISS REDUX in cool edit but had to nix that because it degraded the quality of the mic's signal. I also realized that the UNEDITED vocals with this condenser are as good as the EDITED vocals with my old dynamic. Simply put, this mic gives me a greater range and does not distort/clip easily like my less expensive dynamic. I even got close on the mic and said "OPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPO" over and over, but it did not cause clipping or distortion in the mic. Note: I do have a pop filter. I like this microphone because it connects directly to your USB port. You simply "plug and play" (record, that is).
Note: Though this mic generates better quality than my standard dynamic, I still have to edit my vocals through noise redux and hard limiting. You have to play around with your setting until you get them just right. Oh, and ANTARES is a thing of the past now. **Here are 3 pictures of my set up...Sorry about the middle finger, but I got carried away. The Samsung C01u sells for 80 dollars. The shock mount was 40 dollars. The stand I got was 22 dollars. My pop filter wsa 25 dollars. I don't think you can do much better for the price--well, maybe. HOLLA!
