well...I personally never felt rap is the proper avenue to address social issues...

Rap to me is about venting..emotions...

Rappers who attempt to sound "collegiate" on track come off as snotty to me...and 1/2 the time most people don't understand what they're saying anyway...

which brings me to another point...Just because you don't understand something someone says doesn't make them "deep"...it just means you don't understand the bullshit they're spittin...

Nicely put @ Natural Killa.

Exactly how it should be... diversity is where its at. One day you can spit a track that could attract the attention of the governemnt an then the next day make a club banger to make bitches wanna take they clothes off.

Thas what I love about Hip Hop.. the possibilities are endless. You dont have to be held down to one genre or subject.

The whole Underground vs Commercial bullshit is whats ruining Hip Hop, its all Hip Hop... just different styles.

Q, i feel what ya saying, but Im the type who look sat the worlds issues in a diffrent light and want to speak up about it thru my music, but at time I honestly feel it wont be accepted simply because I am an underground artist not yet fully established.

So there is times I will spit lyrical shit to prove my flow, tech, vocab, and all round usage of the beat...but i feel like if I statrt getting deep about lifes issues it wont be accepted.

I unno, I spose I shoudl really say fuck it, spit real from my heart and I cant go wrong.

Dont be held back by what people think..

If you feel you wanna address political issues, then do it... I hope you rap for yourself an not just so other think its cool.

People will be able to see the truth, if you rap about gay shit because its cool, people will see it for what its worth. If you wantr to address issues, then do it an speak your mind, dont make it look good, do what sounds right an people will se it for the truth it is.

I like some of that shit but I can tell whos bein real about it an whos not.

I rap for me, but you gotta be realistic,,the game is cut throat..you either accepted or not.

but acceptance will come naturally if your dope, i dont feel i have to push to be accepted, Im'a just do me, continue making tracks.

its just the shit i been making recently, has just been filled with lyrical content with a slight message involved. But I want to get simple on a track and simply say what the fucks boiling up in my brain.

Yo take Mobb Deep for example..

these guys have been less known for the longest time, I mean they been dope since day one, recognized by the real Hip Hop fans.. its taken them forever but finally they sign with 50. Most people think they sellin out but they gettin noticed an they still doin shit their own way an I know their next CD will be sick.

But they always stayed true to their own shit, they aint doin adidas commercial, faces on cereal boxes, they kept it real an now they gonna be recognized by everyone.

Its not relevant but this one bitch asked if I heard of that new group that singed with G-Unit an called them Mod Deep. Fuckin dumb birds piss me off lol.

But yeah, keep it real an your time will come.. the quote in my sig applies nicely to this thread.

Your suppose to rap about what you know, sotry tellin is the only exception but make it known its a story an dont say the stories about you lol.

If what you know is politics, get your shit out there, maybe people need to know what you know, you might have somethin worth listenin to.. an if you hold back cause of commercialism, then thas sellin out in a different way, namsayin?

Keep it real, if you dont make millions atleast you can say you kept it real the entire time.

So, being on a Wheaties box and selling addidas means ur not being "real"? I don't see it as that. If Mobb Deep isn't known, that's Mobb Deep's fault.

and u have a right to use ur music for that...it's personal I guess...I choose to use music as a different avenue...

if I wanted to address social issues, I'd write an essay.

If I was to make a song adresseing it and it be liked, then it would have an effect.

if you were to write an essay just for the sake of writing one and not acctually be wanting a effect out of it.then it would be pointless.

I just feel rap is all about, creating change, venting your anger..and freedom of speech.

^^^I agree with the last part...I personally feel music and all art should be visceral more than appealing to the logic...it should appeal to the soul...and I imagine you could do that while addressing issues such as racism and homophobia...so..yea...I feel wut ur sayin...I guess I wud jus have to be interested in the "cause" I was rappin about...not jus doin it cuz it was what's expected

yeh, i have a strong interest in rap and social issues. So i just assumed Im suppose to intertwine the two together. Simply becuase thats me,thats what Im about.

But what Im tryna get at is......... will the industyr accept a no name mc speakign so deep and direct abotu shit without being labeled a wanna-B malcom X or a wanna B huey newton, a wanna B 2 pac.. Even though my approach to the issues are nothing like theres, I got my own veiw and own words to say....but I feel thats what any person who speaks out is labeled as.
