Oh yeah, and Mastering is definitely NOT worth the money at this point in the game. Mastering is a production process, not tuning work - so your quality of sound will improve absolutely 0%. Here's a rule of thumb, if your CD isn't registered with Soundscan, don't waste your money on glass work (aka, Mastering). The reasons being:

1: Why? Great mastering still sounds identical to the "average" burned CD, with "average" meaning a CD that won't flake. However even "good" mastering will sound like slight static for the length of your entire mixtape (like the first Fugees album - obvious evidence of cheap mastering). Bad mastering (which is mega common) will sound like the entire mixtape is playing from the bowels of your shower.

2: It's several hundred (via small mastering joints) per album up to a few thousand (major publishing houses that own their own mastering gear) since a mold has to be made out of silicon glass and you still need to pay to have the two source disks (DAT or CD-R) done before that.

3: It's only needed if you're running off thousands or millions of copies of your music, and you need the "master" which all the other CD's are stamped from. A label typically owns this once you become their property, but for you to own it is completely useless at this point in the game.

4: If any of the song files on your mixtape were originally compressed to MP3's, it's completely useless now since ALL the music will have that post-compression muffle. Not to mention the recording frequency might be 36 or 44mhz vs maxing it out. And what's the sense of glass if you're not running on the best possible stuff at all turns?

5: Better off spending the money on copywriting your original music.

6: Got any fade-ins/outs? lmao GL. The mastering spot is gona LOVE lining that up lmao. Especially normalizing and post tuning (which you'd already have done on your mixtape anyway)

The advantage in the past for mastering was that you'd get a CD that'll play in everything that plays CD, regardless of manufacturer, etc, but that's no longer applicable since EVERYTHING plays burned CD's now. Even car stereo head units (which wasn't always the case).
