Techniques and tricks to make your music addictive

IP:

And, I'm talking about besides making the song good. What else do you all do or know of to make your music addictive?

When I listen to certain tracks, they are almost mesmerizing. I think beat choose plays a big part. But, does anyone else use ad libs or special dubs to make people want to, or almost have to rewind your track to grasp it all? Lately, I like to layer my hooks so that it's almost like a mini-symphony to the listener. I've gotten mixed results on this. Some people can't distinguish between the discrete parts and think it sounds jumbled. Other people like it because it gives the hook flavor.

What's your trick to making your songs addictive?

On the hook I did for "All Praise 2006", I used 6 layers.

i don't bother with that because i know if i do make my shit mesmerising, some bible-basher's gonna come talking backside about how it's the devil's music and hypnotising and all that bullshit. and that's just more hassle as people already tell me my music "needs Jesus/light in it"...and all that s

Q you do know that some pricks have tried to say that Dr Dre's beats have like deliberately hypnotising sounds

that could create some kinda taboo about his music (if thats the right word) in the worst case scenario, and if enough dickheads listen to the few who are tryna marr his reputation it could have dire consequences for his career

^^Yea...I realize that beats can have hypnotic sounds and runs in them. I don't see that as such a bad thing though. Some Middle Eastern music is that way, trance like. It's from the repetitive patterns in it.

yeh but a few people try to make it look like a bad thing and as they say: one bad apple spoils the bunch so it could be bad for business to have that kinda effect to your song

Its all about experience as a producer..

Cats that have been producing for years and years are well practiced in making music that is correctly layered and sounds properly dope...

That said, there are certain frequencys of sound that can be used in songs that tell the brain things subconciously. Music artists have been known to use things like this in the past to mesmorise the listener.

But mostly a real mesmorising track just comes down to how well its produced. A great producer can make even the most shitty singer/rapper sound like a chart topper.....

What's funny is when people claim music has no affect on the listener...DUH...That's why people use music in the first place, to alter the mindstates of the listener. I've heard research that talked about how Grocery stores play certain music at certain times of the day to make you shop more and hence spend more money. It's all subconscious. I actually find it interesting.

They also use specific lighting of areas to give a more asthetic look to their products.

Such as lighitng that will make the meat look more red, fruit look more colorful, etc.

oh what the same way at bus stations in croydon they play classical music, because they know that it will get on young people's nerves and they won't bother congregating there, and loitering around causing trouble. at first i didn't think it would work, but i was surprised...

I choose two or three words with a SLIGHT sexual undertone and repeat them over and over in a sing-songy voice.

I just get on the mic and make the best track I can make.

Then repeat the process for EQing.

Those are my tricks.
