The symbolism in Xmen 3
IP:
I saw this movie today for the first time. And, I must say it was entertaining. I couldn't help but draw parallels between the premise of this movie and the issue of homosexuality in society. There were many congruent issues between the two, including the notion of being able to "cure" that which is seen as abnormal. Anyway, I liked how the movie played out and found it interesting how Magneto began to sound like Osama Bin Laden in his rhetoric.
Def. a good movie 1 Last edited by Tha Q. : 06-01-06 at 08:45 PM. |

My friends and I came up with a theory comparing the X-Men story to the Civil Rights movement, with Xavier as MLK and Magneto as Malcolm X.
But X3 sucked.

Well..the only reason I'd say it compares more to the issue of homosexuality, is because the word "cure" has been used in that context more so than with the issue of race. It fits both though. But, I can def. see where you're coming from with the X, Luther parallels. This movie didn't suck in my opinion. It had all the elements for an enjoyable flick. 1 Last edited by Tha Q. : 06-01-06 at 09:04 PM. |

Nah, it relates to many subjects. It isn't homosexuality in general but you are right when you say that there are a lot of similarities. It is just basically symbolising the struggle for acceptance in a society that is mostly single-minded. Anyone who is perceived as "different" finds it hard to fit in, whether it be homosexual or the struggle that many african americans still have to fit into what a lot of faggots like to call a "white man's world". It could also apply to refugees, migrating to a new country and finding it hard to fit in with society and get a decent job or something.

It also symbolises the fact that this single minded society can't bring itself to live united with people who have super powers.

Yea...sure...It also applies to any culture/minority group that faces persecution for who/what they are. But, one thing that really makes it fit well with the issue of sexuality is the issue of a "cure". There are programs out there now aimed at "curing" homosexuals so they can be "normal". Sounds about the same to me. PS. Stop being a bigot dude. Last edited by Tha Q. : 06-03-06 at 07:30 AM. |

I'm not judgin u...But, u come in here tryna dismiss the relevance of gay issues... so yea...fuck u And I happen to disagree...I think it applies more to the issue of sexuality because of the alienation of the mutants...i.e., people who aren't "normal"... In today's society, black people are at least considered HUMANS! But, yea, I can see Xmen being representative of many issues. Last edited by Tha Q. : 06-03-06 at 11:54 AM. |
