This Gay Marriage Bill about to be voted on...

IP:

in the Senate...

The Bill that could legalize gay marriage in the United States is about to be voted on.

I feel that marriage is a clearly defined institution. That institution is between a man and a woman. I feel like this. Let them have their institution. We all know it "works so well" for them. (Yes, that's a little sarcasm).

Call me a liberal conservative. Call me a non-conforming conformist. W/e...I'm not a huge proponent of marriage for most people to begin with. So many of them fail because people get married for all the wrong reasons. They think someone can/will "complete" them when this is utter nonsense. No one can make you the person you're destined to be but God and yourself. I feel that's one reason so many marriages (50%) fail. People enter them trying to "change" the other person when, when all is said and done, people will just be themselves.

Anyway, I hope this bill does not pass. And, I don't think it will. Marriage is a heterosexual insitution and needs to stay that way.

Besides, a piece of paper for most people won't change how they feel about each other. Sure, there are tax benefits to being married. However, being married for the sake of saying, "Look, SOMEONE LOVES ME" is ridiculous.

LOVE YOURSELF.

Nuff said.

Meh.. Personally I think gays should be allowed to get married...

I see it as an un-nessecary regulation restricting the freedom of the people....

If gays are able to actually fall in love with eachother, they should have the right to legalise that just like everyone else does......

On the flipside though, I also feel marrage is an antiquated pseudo-religious ceremony no longer needed in todays culture, its essentually 'legalising love' and trapping oneself in a system that carries with it more negative stipulations than what its worth. But its fairly clear this philosophy is ahead of its time due to the fact that society as a whole is only a product to their surroundings and while we continue to harbour the belief that marrage is a fundemental requirement in order to solidify the relationship between two people, we will continue to stay trapped in our own system...

And I guess chicks love the whole 'wedding' thing.. So it cant really hurt.....

lol @ twilight zone...BTW, it's "sole" reason...

Well, I'm more against gay marriage not because it's two men per se, but because it's defined as between a man and a woman. Allowing gay people to get married would mean redefining what marriage is altogether. I say let the heterosexual community have their institution. Again, does a marriage certificate improve a relationship? That's the real question here. But, gay couples would argue it's a matter of equal rights, and rights afforded married couples.

I dunno man...I think it's a dangerous thing to re-write history. Marriage is historically between a man and a woman, whereas homosexuality itself is as old as humanity.

^^That's my point. If some white supremist opens up a PRIVATE country club for his buddies, and NO tax dollars go into it, then I wouldn't want to be part of that country club. He has a right to say, "No blacks allowed." It's his own personal, private institution. No public funds went into it.

With marriage, I view it the same way. It's for whom it's for. And, that should be between a man and a woman.

I think anyone who wants to be married in the first place is 1/2 crazy...lol

But, LET THEM HAVE IT.

It's what I believe in my SOUL.....so it's my SOUL reason........I hate you Q

Anyway.....lol. I see what you're saying. But to me, a marriage is a commitment. Basically, you are committing yourself to another person and saying you will be with them for the rest of your life. Divorce is what should be outlawed. If there were no divorces allowed, there would be much less gung ho marriages that end in less than a year. It's sad really.....

And PS.....I pride myself on mot making grammatical errors.....that is why I hate you Q

Don't hate me...Love me.

lol

And I agree, it should be tougher to get a divorce, unless one partner can absolutely prove irreconcilable differences. Also, couples should be required to do couples therapy before they are allowed to marry. It's ridiculous the divorce rate.

And yea...I feel that in my SOLE!

^^And ya know, some gay people would argue that even that is a denial of absolute recognition of their union.

O well...can't please everyone

gay marriages should be legal bc only a marriage partner can make certain drastic decisions for you when you're unconscious in the hospital. like nos said tho, marriage is a religious thing... talk about separation of church and state. this whole gay marriage vote should be unconstitutional. how does the government regulate something religously based?
but yeah, the whole hospital decisions thing is a good reason too i think

^^Yea...u all are right...marriage has religious roots.

But, again, it's traditionally one way...I think history should be maintained here.

Let those who can get married, get married if they want to, but based on the traditions of the institution. Otherwise, it's a new institution.
