What do you look for in good music?

IP:

Well just like what do you look for in music that makes it good to you. Personally I look at how they flow. The lyrics first of all, I need their lyrics to be lyrical/true if it's about gangsta shit I aviod the lyrics and spit my own rhymes if I like the beat, specially with my friends, most of em listen to wack shit. But anyway how bout y'all?

in rap, flow first followed by delivery...then lyrics

I like to be entertained more than educated in music...

Definately heres mine no specific order coz they all add up:

1.A good beat
2.A flow that goes with the beat
3.Good lyrics to accompany that flow

I wanna hear something that every other artist isnt sayin, like metaphors that havent been refered to already

fuck'a good beat, i half decent beat can still make me appreciatte the track.
"good" in the ear of rap these days is a dre beat.

A good track to me isnt a 50 cent track, more a canabis track.
100 bars has a half decent beat and it shits on a in da club or piggy bank which have a "good" beat.

yup.

Your talking about good 'rap'.. Not good 'music'..

Music is personal expression, I try and understand where the writer of the song is comming from and whether I can relate to what their getting accross be it a deep message or just a representation of a culture or artform..

Hell man I can even enjoy pop music and RnB...

I guess overall, I like music that I can really get into the vibe of... If a songs got it, then I dont care what genre it is, I'll be crankin it...

Nah man, I actually meant "music" not rap. I just don't enjoy a song as well as I would if it rhymes, it has to rhyme or it's meh. I like Nate dogg type singing, lotsa people do rhymin.

I was under the impression you meant rap as well... Just the way you said it.

Good music to me has to have a good tempo and a catchy melody. If there are no vocals, there has to be enough depth for me not to get bored of it. eg. Jazz, instead of vocals there is a guitar or a saxaphone or whatever, and Techno there is usually a varying melody.

If there are vocals, the voice should be well suited to the tempo and melody. For example, Immortal tech in dance with the devil nailed his delivery and flow, which ultimately resulted in a really good track. Ray Charles and James Brown can sing the funk like nobody else, and the Isley brothers know how to hit it smooth.

Genre isnt a problem... If the music is good on my ears, i'll listen to it. Some of my preferred genres and some examples of them are (in case anyone wants to broaden their horizons):

- Ambient Rock (eg Dandy Warhols, Pink Floyd)
- Smooth Jazz (eg Norman Brown, Lee Ritenour, Greyboy Allstars)
- Foreign (eg Orange Range, Malice Mizer, Gackt)
- Underground Rap (eg Quasimoto, Binary Star, Immortal Technique, Canibus)
- Gangsta Rap (eg Pac, Biggie, Snoop Dogg)
- Old School Rap (eg Run DMC, KRS-One, Organized Konfusion, Wu-Tang)
- Funk/Disco (eg SOS Band, Isley Brothers, the Gap Band, Afrika Bambaata, Jimmy Bo Horne)
- Classical (eg Nobuo Eumatsu, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Chopin)
- Traditional Oriental
