like NOS already said, rock is more concentrated on the music itself, not the lyrics...though there are some bands that cover both spectrums well that ARE new, here's just a few...
Linkin Park is great msusically as well as lyrically Maroon5 is good too, but their style's way different because they do ballads ColdPlay is that business Velvet Revolver is good too, so is AudioSlave John Meyer is that mutha FUCKin' nigga, "Daughters" was a great ass song Aerosmith and even Bon Jovi are sikk ass bands from the old school right now rock is doing better than rap cuz rap has hardly any good lyricists in mainstream, if you're a rocker you pretty much HAVE to be good at what you do, rappers hide behind the beats they rap over to get by saying nothing at all or the same thing everyone else does, which is also, NOTHING AT ALL...
