The thing i love about hip hop as a general culture, its united youth worlwide.
Even in its pop culture form, its a highly expressive art form, that is common within youth worldwide. Its some what a connection and a peice of unity, when expressed properly. |

mic i read your first post and laughed.
first of all, i get radio play on american underground stations, ive been to american to check out the actual scene in some cities n shit, so dont like i dont know what im talking about. ive done my homework on how to work the business side of things and i know if i push myself properly and promote everything effectively i could make a decent living off music. hip hop isnt what you are telling us to stop hating, hip hop is a lifestyle, its graffiti, break dancing, beatboxing, DJ'n, MC'n.... and most of america these days do not realise that at all, and most americans fail to realise the history of hip hop and it offends me how many americans dont even know who the founder of hip hop was. the UK scene is raw, and gets so much love from the greats of hip hop because it is exactly what hip hop started out as in america.... kool herc, mos def, krsone, and so many more have come and performed in the UK at deal real, and then come back just to relax and take part as a FAN, without any form of bodyguard e.t.c, they love it here and say the american scene has been ruined by corporations and rappers being blinded by dollar signs. its not that i hate the mainstream, but the mainstream isnt real, i like a few mainstream heads but the majority of them are generic and bore the living shit out of me with their fake talk n synth beats. why do people think underground is depressing music???? dilated peoples are depressing??? mos def is depressing??? krs one is depressing???? roots are depressing??? come on now, stop being so pedantic. |

^^nah man that's def not true. Afrika Bambaata created "hip hop" and the term "hip hop" before there was even "hip hop music" and we were still spittin over disco beats (since there were no "hip hop beats") with lyrics from the voice of the people, people in the streets that wanted to make a difference and create change.
Sugar Hill Gang outta Englewood NJ did the first "clubby" type hip hop track with rappers delight, years after "hip hop" had already come into the world. And even Rappers Delight wasn't a "club track" it was a track making light of situations anyoen from the hood could relate to, lol like bad food and the shits

EXACTLY!!!!!! i bet alot of people also dont realise how much of an influence the punk era had on hip hop at the time it was around. if you look back at the history of hip hop, look how alot of them dressed and you will see how similar it was to the punk dress of that day. the entire hip hop culture got its influences from several genres of music rangeing from soul, jazz, blues, as mentioned also disco aswell. music in general has and allways will be a form of expression, even rave music, the people who make it make it to fit the mood they are in at that time. and people say im dumb and cant have a sensible debate and hear i am schooling some of these americans on a culture started in their country haha. big up to apexx for being one of the few heads with actual knowledge. im guessing you remember the days of black sheep???? they dropped some classic ish. |
