It's treating the side effect of a root problem.

It doesn't treat strictly anxiety, it treats the type of anxiety you will find associated with depression.

Otherwise it wouldn't be proscribed as an anxiety medication.

In other words, when added to the bloodstream, it doesn't fuck with anti-depressants, like most other anxiety medications would, and so is in a general class area as anti-depressants, for the time being.

It is proscribed by psychiatric doctors to worried, depressed patients.

it's rare but some medical doctors probably practice giving out xanax to people that are less deserving.
