Has anyone here seen American History X?

Im about to see it and im reluctant cuz of a scene i hear of where this guy gets his teeth scraped on the side of a curb?
 yea call me a pussy but when i see those types of scenes, I always think its gonna happen to me Is it as bad as people say it is? what movies would you compare it with violence wise?
