Exclamation Latinkitten, this could be YOUR man...brothas on the "DL"

IP:

1st off, don't even come in this thread and say, "what does this have to do with hip hop" when 90% of the threads in the LL aren't hip hop related. That's what the LL is for, topics that happen to be on your mind. Also, don't come in her saying "dude this site is 99.9% straight." SO. I'm not straight so I can talk about whatever it is that's pressing for me to talk about.

On that note...

DL...or down low...are men who have wives or girlfriends but secretly sleep with other guys on the side.

This phenomenon is probably more common that you think.

1st off, being "gay" is still looked down upon as a whole by society. So, many gay men suppress their feelings or hide their feelings so that they won't be rejected by society.

On top of that, many people are raised to think being gay is wrong so they lead false lives in a hope to assimilate or "fit in" with what is considered normal.

As a result, many of these men get married, have kids, have girlfriends, but are inwardly gay and sleep with other men.

If society would accept gay people, you wouldn't have this happen because people would feel proud and comfortable with who they are. Meanwhile, these DL men run the risk of spreading diseases to their wives or girls because they often don't use protection when sleeping with guys.

Why is that? The reason they don't use protection is because carrying around a condom to sleep with a man would be admitting to yourself that you're gay. And, these men make it a practice of denying that altogether. Therefore, they sleep with men in a state of self-denial, which increases their risk of picking up STDs. All this is because of the stigma of being gay. They just can't help it.

I met this guy who turned out to be married. I was almost tempted to "go there" until he showed me pictures of his kids like you would show someone at a BBQ or something. When he did that, I was like "hell naw". I was done.

I just wish society would be more tolerant of peoples differences so that people could feel comfortable being who they truly are.

Oh, and here's a shocker...

I personally believe the AIDS epidemic is partly to blame on society. Gay men tend to have to be more secretive in their sexual encounters and often run the risk of having unprotected sex for the aforementioned reasons. Yes, I blame society itself for the current Aids epidemic. If gay men were accepted as equals to straight men, then they wouldn't feel the need to sneek around and be promiscuous. It's all psychology. It's like when you ostracize someone, they feel like the have "nothing else to lose" so they lose self respect and do things people who are "loved" wouldn't do.

Straight guys are not better than gay guys. There are gay doctors, lawyers, politicians, actors. Every position in life has been filled by a gay person at some point or another. So, thinking gay people can't be productive members of society is bologna.

Also, many gay people have children, the NATURAL way. I know for a fact that when I'm more settled in life, I plan to have kids. Many gay people also adopt and are loving parents.

Simply put, stop allowing biases and ignorance to drive your disdain and intolerance for a group or people. Get to know someone. Chances are, you'll like them BECAUSE OF, not inspite of, their differences.

And NO, I am not one of those gay guys who thinks that EVERYONE is gay. I know plenty, plenty of straight men who are happy and content being straight. But, I do know that there are MANY guys who live double lives because of the intolerance of society.

Nuff said
