Intro

Last week was another good week in the GBA. 25/28 people showed for their battle which is a pretty excellent percentage, and there were actually some decent verses. Not to mention lots of sign ins. Here’s what went down.

Last Weeks Battle Reviews

1. DaTrusHurtz (8-0) vs. 2. §howcase (7-1)

Good battle right here. §howcase dropped first and came pretty cool. A few ehh lines, but for some cool concepts and flips. Trus had the concepts to win, but didn’t word all of them as good as they could have, and I think that’s what his downfall is. Every vote indicated it was really close, but §howcase avenged his earlier loss to DaTrus to grab the title by a 4-2 margin. §howcase becomes the 2nd GBA champion ever. GRATS MAN!

3. Wireless (5-3) vs. 4. Civilized Gangsta (2-1)

Weak contendership here. Wireless’ verse looked pretty half-assed as usual, though he still had some pretty funny ideas in there. I thought Civilized would come more personal against Andy Milinakos, but for the most part came too simple. Wireless won 6-0.

5. Tony Brown (6-2) vs. 6. Bobericc_Lyrics (4-2)

I was expecting Tony to take this, but Bob just out did him here. Bob was inconsistent, but had 2 really nice quotables. I’m not sure if Tony took this battle for granted or just had writers block, but he just didn’t bring it in this battle. Bob won 6-0.

7. Axeshun (2-0) vs. 8. Prycele$$ (3-2)

They turned this into a pic battle, and I think that definitely benefited Axeshun. He was all over the place, definitely still has a few things to learn about pic battling, but had a really nice opener and another really funny line. Prycele$$ also had a nice opener, but that was it. He only used the pic for 1 diss and should have used it for his whole verse. Axeshun won 4-0.

9. Alphabetized (3-1) vs. 10. Popcorn (2-2)

Alpha came pretty nice, one of the best verses of the week and one of the best verses I’ve seen from him. He could have been more witty with some of the concepts he had which limited how dope most of them could be, but a very consistent verse, everything was at least average. I thought Popcorn was gonna bring it in this battle, but he was pretty flat. I didn’t see much I liked from him. Alpha got this easy 6-1.

11. Out Writechas (1-1) vs. 12. DiZzy (1-0)

Was looking forward to this battle and while it was one of the better battles of the week, prolly wasn’t what I thought it’d be. DiZzy came pretty consistent n’ had some pretty cool quotables. Out had in my opinion the line of the battle, but had some filler and personals which just seemed very statementish to me. Close battle, but DiZzy won 4-0.

13. Titan (1-0) vs. 14. Area51 (1-0)

Decent battle here. Titan had all the cool concepts to make good personal punches, but didn’t execute them as well as he could have. Some of the ways he used each concept were too basic. Area came the exact opposite. His concepts were pretty average, but worded most of them decently. To me, not much stood out, but a very consistent battle. Area51 won 7-1.

15. tiggobitties (2-2) vs. 16. Dao (1-1)

I wrote in the last mag that tiggo needed to improve or he would be booted. I was hoping that would inspire him to try harder, but instead he gave up and dropped more of the newbish stuff he has been dropping. Dao didn’t come great, but better than he had in the past few weeks and had a few okay lines so he was able to pick up a 6-0 win.

17. Ancel (3-3) vs. 18. GC (1-4)

Ancel no-showed so GC won.

19. Tebo (0-2) vs. 20. Professor (0-1)

Tebo had a pretty nice Chappelle Show line, but that was about it. The rest was stretched n’ awkwardly worded. Professor was much more consistent, but came a bit too simple. Two very different styles, but everyone concluded that Professor was better, and he won 4-0.

21. Zelph (0-1) vs. 22. Mets (0-0)

Zelph needed to bring the heat to beat Mets and he didn’t do it. He came a bit generic and with some poor wording. Mets came okay, some filler, but also some nice quotables. Zelph got the first vote, but Mets ended up winning 4-1.

23. Roger Glocks (0-0) vs. 24. Exist (0-0)

Wasn’t familiar with Exist so wasn’t sure what to expect. He dropped a simple, but effective college dropout line on Glocks to open, but after that fell off. Glocks also started strong and was much more consistent throughout the verse. Glocks won 5-1.

25. R. Christensen (0-0) vs. 26. Konflick (0-0)

Konflick showed me his verse on AIM, but never ended up dropping. R. Christensen got the no-show win.

27. Ghunz (0-0) vs. 28. Keyed (0-0)

Ghunz was online and could have dropped, but no showed so Keyed won.

This past week, I found a good number of quotable punches. However, I really struggled to find too many which I thought were good enough for top punches. I’m in a good mood so I ended up putting most of the quotable punches in here, but as the weeks go on, I’m going to make it tougher to make this section.

Axeshun and Bobericc did a nice job of breaking down votes line by line, but only left generally a few words about each line, not enough to earn a good voting award. In short, no one really did a bad job voting this week, but no one rose above the rest of the crop either.

Power Rankings

10. Tony Brown (6-3) – Came weak against Bob last week, but can drop nice at times. Will need to try harder than last week if he wants to beat Keyed.
9. Out Writechas (1-2) – Only 1-2, but 2 losses came from a tough opponent and no-show. Should be rising in the ranks over the next few weeks.
8. DaTrusHurtz (8-1) – Lost a close one to §howcase last week to finally lose the title. Has been dropping nice, though, and should rise again in the ranks.
7. Mets (1-0) – With lots of luck from people in front of him losing, no-showing, or signing out, managed to move from 22nd to 8th within a week. If he drops like he can, will be in the title in a few weeks.
6. Alphabetized (4-1) – Showing improvement and has done well in the league. Has a tough test, though, with DiZzy this week.
5. Wireless (6-3) – Probably doesn’t deserve a ranking this high, but gets it due to being in the title. Should have motivation to try this week, lets see how he does.
4. Axeshun (3-0) – Dropped solid last week to improve to 3-0. Can’t be ignored anymore, is 1 win from making the title match.
3. Bobericc_Lyrics (5-2) – Surprised me by beating Tony last week. Still needs to elevate, but is improving and can be in the title match next week.
2. DiZzy (2-0) – I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s dropping some solid material. If he keeps it up, should be competing for the title in a few weeks.
1. §howcase (8-1) – Dropped a nice verse to take the title from Trus. Definitely seems to be the man to beat at this point.

Potentially Dope

Ace Heratoga – Faired pretty well in the LBL, especially in the special events. Should do well in the league.
Chase Utley – I don’t know if he cares if people know who he is, so for now I’ll hide his identity. He’s prolly going to be very rusty, but definitely was dope in his prime.
ClasSick – And another former B-Boys champion has joined the league. If he takes this league seriously, a definite title contender.

Predictions

1. §howcase (8-1) vs. 2. Wireless (6-3)

§howcase looked good in taking the title from Trus last week. Wireless can come nice, but is only here cuz of easier opponents. I got §howcase winning this one and holding onto the title.

3. Bobericc_Lyrics (5-2) vs. 4. Axeshun (3-0)

Close match here between RB heads. Both are still elevating heads and this battle will likely come down to who wants it more because their skill levels are pretty even. Bob has fresher concepts though and I’m going to predict him to take this one.

5. Alphabetized (4-1) vs. 6. DiZzy (2-0)

Alpha’s improving and has done pretty nicely in the league. DiZzy has dropped 2 really nice verses in his time in the league. Should be a nice match, but as long as DiZzy drops how he has been, I think he’ll take this one.

7. Professor (1-1) vs. 8. Mets (1-0)

These two dudes aren’t in the same league. Professor is young and still has a lot of elevating to do. Mets doesn’t need any elevating. Mets to win.

9. DaTrusHurtz (8-1) vs. 10. Civilized Gangsta (2-2)

The only time we have ever faced was when I beat him about 2 years ago on RB when both of us were still relatively new. A lot has changed since then, though. Good Luck.

11. Roger Glocks (1-0) vs. 12. R. Christensen (1-0)

This can be the battle of the week if both put forth some effort to it. I get the feeling at least one of these two will half-ass it, but hopefully not. Both are very accomplished, though on different sites. I think Glocks is a little better, though, and will win this.

13. Keyed (1-0) vs. 14. Tony Brown (6-3)

Tony let me down last week with a pretty weak verse which prevented him from getting into the contendership. Keyed dropped a decent no-show verse last week, but I think Tony will rebound here. Tony to win.

15. Prycele$$ (3-3) vs. 16. Sureloc Holmes (3-3)

Pretty even battle here, though with 2 very different styles. I think Prycele$$ is a bit more creative, but Sureloc has the advantage in other areas. Tough call, but I’m going with Prycele$$

17. Popcorn (2-3) vs. 18. Out Writechas (1-2)

Popcorn can drop nice, but has been rushing quick verses. Out Writechas didn’t drop bad last week, but had a tough opponent which led to a loss. If Popcorn puts forth a good effort, he could take this, but I got Out Writechas winning.

19. Titan (1-1) vs. 20. Phil Benjamin (1-1)

Should be a decent match here, two heads who are pretty even in skill with similar styles. Really a toss-up, I haven’t seen Phil write in a few months so I don’t know where he’s at in terms of his game, but I’m going with Titan here.

21. Tebo (0-3) vs. 22. Zelph (0-1)

Tebo has really struggled so far in the league and hopefully he’s going to pick it up soon. Zelph has struggled a bit too, though most people would have lost last week to Mets. Another toss-up, but I’m going with Zelph.

23. Exist (0-1) vs. 24. ClasSick (0-0)

I get the feeling that one of these two will no-show, but hopefully I’m going to be wrong. Exist isn’t bad from what I saw last week, but ClasSick is really nice when he brings it. ClasSick to win.

25. Native Pryde (0-0) vs. 26. Chase Utley (0-0)

I hope that Native shows, he seems to appear and disappear a lot, but if he does, this battle should be decent. Chase is going to be rusty as he hasn’t battled in awhile, but I’m going to predict him to win anyway.

27. Jonny Hustle (0-0) vs. 28. Veeyo (0-0)

Jonny has dropped some decent stuff on WhoYouReppin so I expect him to at least come average in this. I haven’t seen much from Veeyo, but most of what I’ve seen hasn’t really impressed me too much, though he’s not bad. I’m going with Jonny here.

29. docholiday (0-0) vs. 30. -Coop- (0-0)

I don’t know who docholiday is, but he dropped already and his verse looked very rushed. Coop is a rising head on RB who still needs some elevation, but has the potential to be good. Hopefully this league will help him to continue to elevate. I got him winning here.

31. King Spic (0-0) vs. 32. Ace Heratoga (0-0)

I haven’t seen anything from King Spic, at least, not that I know of, so I’m not sure what to expect. Ace is a cool head, though, I don’t see King Spic bringing anything that can beat him. Ace to win.

Outro

League is looking better by the week as more and more heads are signing in. Quality of battles isn’t quite what I’m looking for yet, but its getting there, and this league is starting to shape into what I envisioned it. I’m going to continue to work hard recruiting heads.
