Life in itself is a query. Due to my lack of belief in religion, for reasons I may or may not discuss sometime later, I must take the path of answering the query of life in a more realistic way. I do not dare speak on a scientific level, as I am not educated enough in that area. This leaves life on the psychological level. What I am trying to think through is “the meaning of life” as some would say.

Now… The meaning of life, could not possibly, in a sense, be material. Most material things were created by man. By material, I mean such things as money, belongings, homes, etc. Since the primitive humans had none of these things but still may have led fulfilling lives, it is proven that these items are not necessary in life.

Religion? Religion implies that the meaning of life lies after death. Thats just gay, and what im talking about is the meaning of THIS life. So religion is easily ignored.

But returning to the meaning of life… Materials are not the meaning of life. If this statement is true, then why are so many lives based solely around gaining materials? The answer lies in the motives behind the creation of the material. The motive is pleasure. All lives revolve around getting pleasure in some way or another. I will briefly touch on two examples.

1. Television – The motives behind the creation of television were information passage, and entertainment. Being without information, depending on the individual, causes negative emotions. Negative emotions are the opposite of pleasure. Entertainment’s purpose is to prevent boredom (negative emotions), and give pleasure.

2. A primitive spear – Ancient tribes of Africa constructed spears, their motive in doing this was to gain an easier means to kill animals. Not having animals would result in negative emotions stemming from hunger. The opposite of negative emotions, again, is pleasure.

Both of these examples give the same conclusion. Every single material object was created to give pleasure, in some sense. Try applying this form of example to anything, and the conclusion is the same. Therefore, obtaining pleasure is one of the possible meanings of life.
