Let me say one thing about this, Jesus was not assassinated by anyone, the Romans, Jews, or anyone else killed Him, He died willingly. He knew He was going to die, even said so, and He had a choice, being 100% human as well as 100% God, and could have backed out at any time. But He didn't, He willingly gave His life to save all of mankind, so they can be in heaven with Him forever.

Nobody "worships" the cross(maybe some religions), its symbolism for what Jesus did for the world, as u know, and the cross doesn't mean destruction for most people i imagine it symbols a REBIRTH or a new life, because that act is the greatest and most tragic act that the world has ever seen. The cross is also a talisman for believers.
