The plan is to get people used to paying high gas prices so when the hybrid SUVs come in people will be used to it.

Toyota (highlander Hybrid) has one that delivers 265 horsepower 31 mpg / 27 mpg

The Chevy Suburban has 295 horsepower gets 14 mpg / 18 mpg

now this is with a hybrid and the gas @ $5 per gallon and 30 mpg

Then the people will say "man I am so glad to be out of that gas guzzler" and not notice that we are being screwed.
