I lost my teaching job because a contract I had with the school expired. I could get another job at a school, but I don't want to. It really wasn't that great. Everyone always saying shit like "Oh could you run to my office and get this", "Could you mark these papers", "Are you free saturday to coach my team", "blah blah blah". And when I taught classes, imagine explaining things over and over again to kids who don't have the brain capacity to understand what you're saying, let alone pay attention.



I don't know if it's a man or a woman. -_-

But yeah I guess all of you are right. I May as well take it, and see if I can find a better job later that pays higher.

Any child can learn son...It's called learning modalities.

I can see what you're saying, I'll give you an example.

Classes are graded, right? So the top class has the best performing students in it, the lowest has the students that have trouble. So lets say I'm teaching the lowest biology class. A lot of concepts, even in high school biology, are a bit difficult to grasp and it requires effort and ability on the student's part for them to understand it and for them to remember it. Some of the kids in the lower class are just not the brightest (I know it sounds harsh), and biology is clearly not their thing. Other kids have had their parents force them to do this subject for whatever reason. The rest chose to do biology but didn't have a good idea of what was involved in the course, and later found they lost interest in it.

So then it's my job (sometimes) to attempt to teach these students who don't want to be there, don't want to learn, and can't grasp the content because they don't have it in them.

Compare this to the top class, who all have motivation to succeed in the subject, they do their work when they're told, they ask questions if they don't understand something, and soon enough they get it.

I mainly had to teach the lower classes though.

#1...ALL children have the capacity to learn. They just have to be inspired and motivated to do so in some cases.

#2...MOST children WANT to learn. So, saying, "those that don't want to learn" is a cop out. The reality is this. Most kids don't like learning the WAY most teachers teach, not WHAT they teach.

#3...You don't think biology is "their thing" or "in them"...That's speaking black magic son. How can you stigmatize people by your words? Children are smart. They know if you don't believe in them or not...

They can learn ANYTHING you teach them, if you're willing to put forth the time and effort to accommodate those with special needs/learning styles.

Kids rise to whatever level you EXPECT of them.

I'm talking about kids that despise biology. They don't want to learn biology, they don't care about biology, all they want is for the bell to ring so they can get out of there.

For them to learn, the entire course would have to be taught every single lesson. This is because it builds up, for example they would first learn about DNA, the structure of DNA, the purpose of DNA, further more in-depth qualities of DNA, then how DNA is copied, how DNA is used to form amino acids, how amino acids are used to form polypeptides, how polypeptides fit into the body... etc. Usually you teach this gradually, and their understanding of DNA deepends over the years. Some kids don't even bother to learn the purpose and structure of DNA, so how can you teach them the rest of the course?

You could have them draw diagrams, you could have them look it up on the internet, you could have them write a report, you could have them answer some questions, you could explain it, you could have them watch a video about it, and they still won't learn it. This isnt all kids, this is most of them in the lower class (some are OK in the lower class, but usually those ones get moved up)... They just don't want to learn it, they don't care one tiny bit about it. This isn't their fault, I don't blame them. It just means biology isn't their thing. Thats not disrespecting these children, it's telling the truth.

Everybody's brain is different... You might have a kid who is in the lowest english class, couldn't write a decent essay to save his life. But the same kid will be in the top maths class, owning the shit out of everyone. You might have a kid who is terrible at history and geography, but his parents make him do it, but this same kid will be top of the line in music and visual arts.

I realize the potential that children have. Every kid has particular needs and learning styles though, and in this society they choose to ignore that. If you have 20-30 kids in a class, of course the teacher isn't going to be able to accommodate for every single one of them. Its sad but true, the education system forces kids to mould into something they arent. It affects their potential, because kids that may be great visual learners are forced to wrote learn, which puts them behind the kids that are natural wrote learners. This kind of thing happens all the time.

And I was just a stand-in teacher, I taught many different classes a week, some may be the same, usually they are all different. I didn't have a class that was my own that I could work with and really get to know because I saw them every day or whatever. Students I got to know were kids that I taught in a range of different classes that were the same.

And one other shit thing, they give the best teacher to the top students, and the worst teacher to the lowest students. So the kids who need a really great teacher that can motivate them, get a shitty teacher who doesn't care about his class so much so that he often asks substitute teachers to teach it. And the kids in the top classes that will learn and excel no matter what teacher, and give the teacher an easier job, get the good teachers.

Kids don't really want to learn. You can say they do all they want, Q, but the only class people actually respond to the material in is an honors class (though the teacher of that class is the coolest in the school ). Some people will do the work...but no one really cares, and even if they do pass the test, they'll forget it in two days.
