As for the death thing, I think it largely depends on the topic. There are various topics that connect directly with death. If I were to set up a topical battle with a topic like "gunshots" or "dripping blood" obviously, it's gonna be a story about death. Which is why in the league, I try to set up the battle with fairly open topics that can be molded by talented writers.
Death is very easy to write about, but actual emotion and everything else that comprises life is difficult.
Thus, everyone choose death, at least in writing.

Werd to Maven, its not really the endings and such that are important, its the storytelling, character build up, emotion, depth, imagery, writers voice, word choice, a writer could take `death` at the end of the piece, but still make it dope and fresh, its all about how the flip it at the end and give it their own twists. .
