hi i am going to write like aesop rock today

the villagers are swimming in a stream of self pity
only to discover bad lands are joyous cites
the simile of divinity turn to ironies echoes
the freckled past diminished to dreams of charcoal
the charcoal is ambiguous to eye lids of blind men
confind to a ocean with suit of iron sent to swim

if aesop wrote that it you guys would be tring to descipher it forcing meaning into it when their is none and it would have 30 diffrent amazing meanings by the time your done

you guys make me laugh how you force meaning into his words.

wogsta i've probabley listened to aesop longer then you. i been listening to him since one of my friends showed me music for earthworms or something like that. and at first i liked him, explaining why i own, float, labor days, and the daylight ep. but now that i stopped smoking weed i have realized how wack he really is.

people act like just because im talking bad about him that i never sat and listed to him, when i used to listen to him alot.
and most of you probabley think i only like simple raps that dont take much thinking to understand but that isnt the case either.
i just dont like aesop and think most of his fans are full of shit when they say they understand his songs. or they are just tring to fit in with the few people that actually do or think they do

^ i didnt mean that at all.... i was just making a point, not directly aimed at you. And i actually dont understand prolly 60% of what hes saying. But thats why i like listening to him, i work out something new everytime i listen, so its always interesting.

I do think people who say they know what he means all the time are full of shit, but it is possible to understand to a certain degree. I agree with forcing meaning into it and that people do do that, but he makes music for himself - i guess thats why hes prolly the only who really knows what it means. Even with other artists, you do have to force meanings - thats poetry, you listen, and then make your own judgement as to what it means to you. Of course there are simple rappers like 50 that dont really have any meaning, just blatantly simple things, but most good rappers have deeper meanings that you wont get straight away. In aesops case, you'll prolly never get all of it. I know I sound stupid, but thats just what i think. You make your own judgement as to what you think it means. Or you can just give Ace a call.

and i want handcuffs to answer cause i dont beleave him either.

muthugga probabley does understand cause i have read his work and its weird like aesop but i want him to answer just cause he is fun to pick on.

hahaha, nice!

that is so funny, my friends were just trying to "decode" his lyrics today in study hall. Some of what he says is just random bull shit, like on that song abandon all hope. "I do jigs around pigs, figurin'/" i mean, whatb the fuck does that mean? He uses alot of big words to confuse people, like xenophobe and analgamates. He is just good because he odd, that's it, he is just one odd mutha fucka. We got to the point where we went to the library and looked up the biblical shit he says, it just means dark, evil and shit like that. It is wierd though, i like him though.

Agreeably some of his stuff is just ment to push the track onwards. But if you are listening to an MC for just the meaning of lyrics.. then you're doing it wrong. I started listening to him when his Float EP first came out. His lyrics didn't catch me really until later. But his rhyme scheme and pressence are unique and dope. This is what got me into him. But I'd say I've been listening to Aesop for quite a few years. And I still play on average 14 tracks.. a full CD a day. Not trying to say I fully understand everything he says. But I basically know the meaning behind it all.

But yea. His flow is greeeeat.

i don't agree that aesop sometimes just uses "big words" or "confuses" people for the fuck of it. To each his own, and yes in all music its what it means personally to you. i enjoy when the typical phrases or sayings are said differently, i like to think. aesop is not my fav. but i enjoy his music. he refers to a sea of bobbleheads nodding yes (think people), its witty and you'll bound to remember that.

Slug says something like "thug love standing on the corner of a wal-greens, looked at me like i was just another square saltine"

square saltine = cracker = aka whiteboy... creativity.

I agree wit Habitat ... Cuz a lot of times I write shit ... Spit it ... And my boy's be like ... Wat the fucc U talkin' bout man ... And I juss say fucc it ... At least I know wat I mean ... But personally ... I juss started listenin' to Aesop ... I think he has meanin' in his verse ... But U shouldn't really try decipherin' his entire verse ... Juss break down wat U understand ... Juss like listenin' to anythin' else ... I doubt U break down every fuccin' thing they say ... So why should U look at Aesop any differently ? Because U have a description of Underground rappers havin' to have meanin' in every fuccin' line ? Slug doesn't have meanin' in every line ... Do U try to break him down like that ? Juss think of it that way ... And shit'll make sense ... And yes ... If U wanna put your own meanin' to the verse do so ... Cuz no-one will have the exact meanin of his verse unless they sat down and discussed it with him ... Nah meam ?

thats complete crap...

so your saying that not every line has a meaning, so can you give me an example? cause i beg to differ. EVERY line in a song means something or leads to a meaning, however perceived. there may not be some deep underlying meaning but it has purpose. 50's lines have meaning even though they're pointless meanings about parties and pimpings. So your saying theres just alot of filler in Slug's verses? care to further explain cause i don't "nah" what you "meam"

Exactly wat U said ... They lead to a meanin' ... Gettin' to the point that U can explain sections of a song ... But might have trouble explainin' the line alone ...

I actually agree with Flu here .. i got into Aesop when the popularity snowballed .. heard Daylight which had the quoteable about Life's Not a Bitch, decided to get more, liked No Regrets but when i heard 90% of the album, i realised most of it was bullshit. And didnt make sense to me at the time. There's like .. 4 tracks of his i actually like and listen to, but to me .. the rest is hype by backpackers thinking if they listen to him, they'll fit in. Flu - go listen to Grouch .. a lot more simple, but still backpacker-esque, he's more what im into. Either grouch, eligh or eyedea

Not necessarily...I mean it's Aesops writers voice that makes him that way...Some emcees do tend to include stuff that can only be deciphered by themselves...Or having the listener have to look so in depthly that you might have to look at each word individually and then link the following 2 or 3 words with it. I mean emcees tend to relate to fixations they have with things, and if you're a first time listener to something they've recycled before..you won't necessarily understand whats being said. This said its only really exampled in Aesop Rocks lyrics and few other artists like Mac Lethal and *cough, cough, cough, rolls eyes*
