It shouldn't matter. The term 'soccer' was invented by middle class Brits. It's derived from Association Football. As they used to call Rugby football too at the time (you know, Rugby was invented from Football...kind of).

And if you feel football is under threat by the usage of 'football' by others for another sport. Just got to take solace in the fact Association Football is played by billions around the world. It is the biggest. And it's much easier to access than most other sports in the world.

Records indicate that tsu chu was played as a part of the Emperor's birthday celebration. The Chinese also played some form of the game to train soldiers during the Ts'in Dynasty (255 BC - 206 BC). According to records, tsu chu was also played extensively during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD).

From what i've read. The influence of modern day Association Football was far from East Asian. Though it could've played a slight factor. But it was meant to be a butcher who formed a ball like shape of a pig's bladder. And then people got kicking it about. And used to kick and chase it up and down the streets. It was banned by the King. Then reformed into an ordered and ruled game, called Association Football aka Soccer.

But yeah, i agree. Some Brits can get unecessarily cock, yet be stupidly 'wrong'.
