Well then I dont really know.

Because my motherboard is SATA, and my cable looks like that and fits into both my hard drives and all four of my cd/dvd drives..

I dont even know. My computer is a bit like frankenstien. I take parts from any computer I see and put it in mine. Ive got like 2GB of ram and like 2 video cards that I switch every so often. My 4 cd/dvd drives are a different color to the computer case, and 2 arent even attached.. theyre hanging by the cables out the side of the box.

The pictures were a bit dark.. had to lighten them with paintshop. Either way, you had bought a SATA hard drive. The connector you are holding in your hand is a 40 pin IDE connector. If you keep the drive, you'll need to buy an IDE to SATA converter. It's probably more cost effective to return the drive since it's new and get an IDE drive instead.

Here are pics of the differences between the connectors

30 or 300? All drives out there are over 30 gigs nowadays. You can find 300 gig drives for around $100. For 400-500 gig drives, look at Seagate and Hitachi. Both have them in IDE. Just look for Ultra ATA/100 or ATA/133 on the box.
