Introduction

Some are trying to revive it, but the state of text is in a decline. Regular battles are becoming mundane, boring, and unoriginal. Change is needed. I would like to welcome you all to the GBA, The Gimmick Battle Association. After being open for three months on another website, the GBA has been moved to BRL where it can offer cash prizes of $25/Week to the champion and realize its expected unprecedented success.

So, what is it? The GBA is a brand new theme based league. With every week, the GBA will have a different gimmick which might have you dissing your favorite actor, rapper, sports team, pictures of ugly people, prisoners, your girlfriend, etc. You name it, we'll do it! These fresh topics create an opportunity for battles more centered around witty personals rather than played wordplay.

Theme Requests

Near the beginning of each week, we will create a listing of potential themes for the upcoming week. After viewing the poll results and hearing everyone's opinions, we will pick a theme and begin honoring requests within that theme. For example, if we decide on Actor/Actress week, we will give everyone the chance to request an actor/actress for the upcoming week which they would be representing. Individuals who do not make a special request will be assigned randomly.

How Will This Work?

This league is obviously unique in nature, but will function similarly to most other leagues. We will have a ranking system in which you move up and down based on your performance from the previous week. When you win, you will move up approximately half way closer to the #1 spot, but this is not an exact science and the moderators will use their best judgment to determine exact rankings. The league will be never ending and your rank will change on a weekly basis. The format is the same, the type of battles are different.

Deadlines

Verses for this league will be due at 12:00AM Pacific Time, or in other words, 3:00AM Eastern Time. Should you show up late, we will allow your late verse on the condition that your opponent accepts it. We encourage people to show good sportsmanship and allow late verses, but if you feel your opponent had no excuse for showing late and used that extra time to make a more polished verse, you have the right to DQ them and take a no-show win assuming you showed on time. However, be aware that posting late will likely cause your battle to receive fewer votes. Please show on time.

No-Showing

The GBA is going to be very strict on no-showing. If you no-show, do not expect to receive a battle the next week. Inside the history & hall of fame forum is a bad members listing. If you no-show, also expect to become listed as a part of that thread. 3 no-shows will get you banned from the league permanently with no chance of returning. No-showing ruins the spirit of a league, and we expect people to show up for their battles.

Feeding/Biting/Swaying

All of the above are prohibited from this league. Feeding will result in -2 votes. Swaying will result in an automatic DQ. Biting will result in being vanquished from the league permanently and being banned from this site. We do not expect biting in this league as most of these matches will be unique and there would be no source to bite from, but we will be watching out anyway. We will also be very strict about swaying should it become a problem. Freeposting should be done outside of battles, but swaying is still not allowed in any thread in the league.

Voting

We will be requiring everyone to vote on 4 battles each week. This is a reasonable and quite standard number. Battles will be closing Thursday mornings so all votes should be completed by Wednesday night. Failure to complete all 4 votes will result in an auto DQ for your battle. Also, should you fail to vote but your opponent does, they will receive the win. If neither vote, no one wins.

Now, I understand that people occasionally leave town or have things come up that would prevent them from voting. Should this happen, please just let me know over AIM or over PM. I will excuse you from voting on the condition that you vote on 8 battles during the next week. Failure to complete this assignment would result in 2 losses, 1 for each battle.

Finally, its unfortunate, but I do know that net beef does exist. If there is someone that you do not want voting on your battle, please post in the thread your request and this will be honored. However, this must be done BEFORE that person votes.

The Boot

This is a quality league so we expect that it will have quality members. We will be giving almost everyone a chance in this league, but we do reserve the right to boot members who are not dropping up to par. If you consistently try your best, show on time, vote, and be a good member, this should not happen, but unfortunately we will have to boot some of the wacker members to ensure that this league maintains a high level of excellence.

Prizes

You've read this far, you have finally reached the best part! $25 will be awarded to the champion EVERY WEEK. If you champ the league and retain your title, you will keep earning $25 until you lose. You all can thank E for his generosity with supplying these prizes.

One catch, you will not earn $25 if your opponent no-shows. However, if they show and you win, you WILL be receiving your money. E is very reliable and has paid many other winners in the past. Give this league your best and your wallet will get bigger.

Conclusion

This league should be very exciting to all of you because it is so different than the many existing alternative leagues. We are very open to suggestions and ideas for this league so please feel free to throw out any ideas you have. Have Fun!
