For me it's the best for playing everything except DVD's.. since I have a DVD player that came installed. Also has streaming radio and video.. tv shows, pr0n etc.. as well as loads of skins and stuff to customize it.

A browser that's second to none. If you use IE you should make the switch to Firefox.. it's alot safer.. and doesn't install Active X controls from pages without your permission. Very customizable.. you can add themes and extensions that'll help you out in all kinds of ways.
All your IE bookmarks, options etc.. can be imported so you don't lose anything while making the switch.

A Download Manager

I download everything using this. Very simple to use.. has a resume and pause feature.. so you'll never lose a download halfway through and it'll never fail. Alot faster than regular downloading too. Perfect for big downloads like movies etc..

Both of these should be all you need to rid your computer of spyware and adware. Run a scan every few days and you'll be sorted. Don't forget to update each before a scan for the new spyware definitions.

Virus Scanning.

I don't have an anti-virus program.. I just scan online using Homecall every few days. Best free online scanner there is.

Bit Torrent.

Torrents are the shit. Movies, Music, Pr0n.. whatever.. it's all easy to download and top quality with Bit Torrent.

You'll need a client. I use Azureus.. great client.. have had no problems with it as of yet.

When you first install it will take you through th configuration process. All simple.. except the the port number.

Change the Incoming TCP listen port. A range within the region 49152 through 65535 is preferable.

Basically pick a number between those.

I use 57332.

All done.

* NOTE * -- There is a newer version of Azureus. The link I provided is to the old version.. I use it.. alot of ppl have problems with the new one.. so stick to this. Each time you open Azuerus it'll ask you to install the upgrades. CLICK CANCEL.

Downloading Torrents.

First you need torrent sites. There are loads out there.. a good free one being http://www.torrentspy.com. Great site.. but alot of shit files.. make sure you read the comments before downloading a file to see what others have to say about it.

http://torrentit.com - The best site I've ever found torrent wise. Great releases.. good seeders and a hell of alot of files. Something new posted every few minutes. No shit files.. all the best of the best and all work perfectly. Currently not accepting new members.. it's invite only. I get 10 invites when I reach the rank of Power User.. if you want an invite off me when it happens PM me.

Downloading torrents is as easy as clicking the torrent download link. If your browser asks you to choose what program to open with.. choose Bit Torrent. If not.. just save the torrent file to your computer.. and open it using Azureus.

It'll start downloading.


Have a read on the forums of FileList/Torrentspy etc.. for more info.. but once you get the hang of it you'll never look back.


WinRAR.

WinRAR is alot like WinZIP.. it allows you to open .rar files that are compressed.

Alot of large files like movies and such come in 50+ .rar files in a folder. With WinRAR installed.. you just open the first .rar in the folder and automatically behind the scenes they'll all combine to give you the main file.

Simple to use.. same as WinZIP just a different file extension.
