They aren't the same thing, but they both have alot of similaritys.

I think rap and hip hop are essentially the same thing.
but rap is like where ur spittin, hip hop is all four elements of hip hop, emcee'ing, graffiti, dance and dj'ing!

Rap is something you do, Hip-hop is something you live...

That was in the words of Jay-Z i believe... but thats what i think, raps the actual rapping but hip-hop is like a lifestyle...

sorry................but i didnt read any of the previous posts to this thread.

hip hop= an 'underground' culture consisting of 4 elements. rap, graffitti, break dancing and d.j.ing are those elements.

rap= just an element of hip hop.

i really hope this helps you confused kids.

^I agree with that but.. What makes you say hip hop is an underground culture? It's pretty large in my opinion although you won't find to many kids that are good at all of it's elements tho.
