Canibus - Rip The Jacker 2003

Canibus - Rip the Jacker (2003)

BTW, this took f***in ages, so lemme get some appreciation even if u dnt agree lol

In my eyes, Canibus is simply the greatest lyricist to ever lived, lyrically he is everything he claims to be. Many feel it is just high intellectual polysyllabic vocab used mishappily. But, his rhymes are still witty when he wants them to be and his lyricism is just truly amazing. A man not of formal education but who educated himself in the ghetto circumstances he grew up in, to be at such a level of intelligence and insight is admirable. Anyways, enough of how I love his rhymes lets review what I feel his greatest lyrical album is Rip the Jacker 2003

Track 1 - intro

Track 2 – Genabis (9/10)
This track is raw, truly original concept bre…Canibus uses da first verse to describe the 7 days of creation when he put together the 6 main aspects of his mc style. The seventh day was a day of rest, A truly original concept, and Bis shines all the way through the rest of the track…The beat come on yall…s**t…all I can say is dopeness…although what do you expect its made by Stoupe cuz, has a dope classical sample the hook is a scratch up of C-C-Canibus and L-e-vitibus…raw…this track is what hiphop should be…
Fav line from track: One small step for man, one huge step for mankind
...I am the red giant of rhymes
Solar deflectors, incinerate you whole in a second
Flow is untested those that I've threatened fold under pressure
At 120 Beta cycles, high volts ignite your eyeballs

Track 3 – Levitibus (9/10)

This is probably one of my favourite tracks on the album….Levitibus he names the track taken from the biblical Leviticus…this tracks is a heavy combination of epic statements, profound philosophy and well just self-glorification, he still uses his sick battle style rhyme style tho get me….The beat another stoupe dopeness…has a nice classical epic sample and feel once again..
Fav line: I was created by intelligent design
you are merely a descendant of the immodified
you diss me out of pride
but when youre finished talkin bout one of your b**ches youre simply out o

Track 4 – M Sea Creasy (7.5/10)
This track has dope female samples within it explaining the phenomenon of poetry, something I can relate to, considering myself a poet hear me, bis steps down his lyricism in this track, the beat has a dope exotic Indian Arabian type feel… this is a solid album track, but it lacks the rawness of the album so far, although many regard this as one of the better tracks I jus aint relating to it, the content is mainly explaining how bis tries to use lyric and poetry to understand himself and others, nice concept but rather than it being a heavy full track im jus listening to the lyrics
Fav line: yeah you can't battle me, so you'd rather embarrass me
I maintain dignity in the face of calamity
they reach out they hand to me and talk this honesty
but I read through their syntactic structure like Nome Chopski

Track 5 – No Return (8/10)
On 'No Return', Stoupe somehow meshes an almost Bob Marley-sounding type beat and Canibus' battle lyrics for a surprisingly head-nodding result with Bis dropping three eye-popping verses, each one a different account of his death..this track is unbelievable, reminiscent of tupac’s death rhymes , where he talks about how he will die, bis takes the same concept but just does it better, describing the story as himself as some sort of spy lol, with less emotion than pac but more than made up for by his sick ass lyricism and the heavy beat
Fav line: Floatillas and space centers, lasers probed the entrance
DNA code sensors reject old genetics
I presented my cosmic clearance to a patrol of medics
I was injected with sodium pentathol and questioned

Track 6 – Spartibus (9/10)
This beat is staright head nodding, I had to f*** wid the settings in windows media player cos the bass was on the verge of popping my speakers…you could bang dis in your car get respect for the bass and props for the lyricism on top of the beat..The beat has a dope Arabian feel…Bis’ lyrics are flawless, intertwining intellect with humour and wit..He goes into a sick ass multi fow in first verse (below) that has the reminiscence of his early freesyles which I dloaded off limewire the same f*** YOU flow within high lyrical heavyness
Fav line: Time is breath; breath is life; life is light
Light is no less than capital 'C' on the mic
Beneath the mirage of night I'll attack you twice
Prepare to rig a sacrifice with my ritual rights
Reinforce my habitual likes 'n dislikes
Then diss you on the mic cause I'm sick o' the hype
No one's ever written what I write
Compare they calligraphy type
Tell me yo how can I not be nice

Track 7 – Indisible (9/10)
Same sort of vibe as showtime at the gallow…but it jus feels better and the hook is catch..track has a latin salsa type tempo and sound..Canibus has a softer tone in his voice than norm, but it suits him with the beat, a diff side of beat, but every now nad then that raspy hood battle rapper vengeance comes thru and it sounds heavy..
Fav libe: Back to the Canibus era
My eponym is apparent
Those who hear my efforts gotta give me the merit
Off lyrics alone I'm a legend
But I can't take credit, the English language was not my invention

Track 8 – Showtime At The Gallow (8.5/10)
This is my least liked track on the album. Definently in my eyes the worst stoupe beat on the album get me, its got a sort of raggaton feel to it which I think personally doesn’t sort canibus, its to uppity, although it suits his content, I jus personally prefer canibus raw, not club…technically however this track is heavy, lyrics are on par, beat is -_- but fair enough, that’s a personal response…the beat has a sample in it, that we would’ve all heard b4 and its vexin me cos I cnt put ma finger on what it is lol.
Fav line: And a selfish soldier wit pride that was ordered to die
A burnin' star in the sky my heart is warped wit a drive
Expressin' thoughts through a rhyme my metaphors are alive
It's like I've been crucified they hate me now like Nas
They punctured me through my side the bleeding was cauterized
I was revived after I died

Track 9 – Psych Evaluation (10/10)
This track basically is a mental analysis of Canibus himself by Canibus…its damn raw, his lyrics reach a new plato of heaviness blud.. The concept itself warrants attention, your forced to listen hard to the lyrics..this track feels like some s**t ud b hearin tripped out on LSD or sum s**t…Its all pychedellic but not in a trippy hippy way, its hard as f*** to explain ur gonna hav 2 check it, 2 get what im saying…One again the stoupe beat is a beautiful piece of work…the canibus samples function as the hook mixed in with a gal singin random words lol, no idea but it sounds sick nonetheless get me..
Fav line: Some say the pen overpowers the sword
The video camera is just as powerful when it records
Appallin' footage of cops breakin' the law
Mad at you because of what you saw, now they breakin' ya jaw
I been accused, of bein' internally preoccupied
'Cause the rhymes talk to me, and I talk to the rhymes
Clinically induced impulses reveal what's hidden
Written prescriptions, given by qualified clinicians

Track 10 – Cemantics (9.5/10)
Anyone doubting the dopeness of Stoupe right now needs to check out dis track. This beat sis the rawest beat ive probably ever heard, samples used with perfectin, epic crescendos and symbol crashes, fast head boppin drum lines…kinda like some annodimin beats s**t but just 50X better..no offence to ma man AD lol…Here Bis rips a ridiculously hot Stoupe beat to absolute shreds, then backs up his car ova the shreds and gets out n takes a chainsaw to em and proceeds to defacte all over the molecular pieces of beat that are left. Bis absolutely f***in kills it. Just sit back and listen cuz, this track is that raw blud. I don’t really know what to say reviewing this you just need to hear it and sit back and marvel…..the definition of raw
Fav line: It's on when the crowd is cheering me on
Waving they arms, like they doing Falun Gong
Firearms three quarters of a million troops strong
In a single file line, stretched out a mile long
Thermodynamics of the second law
Isolated physical systems lead toward greater disorder

Track 11 – Poet Laurette 2 (50000/10) POW BOOOOMMM, this n***a dun broke ma mothaf***in scale!!!!
[Sampled Intro: same outro from Poet Laureate]
Uhh I dont understand how a writer could ever get writer's block, so called
My problem is having too much.. and being unable to get it down...

So you hear that sample….some old philosopher soundin bloke, then bang the beat drops…Epic.Raw.Head Nodding. Calssical. Vocal. Stoupe in his element…and canibus drops in his top flow, the battle rapping raw grimey gutter voice..the god-like prescence…this is just bis on the 1st beat, fav lyric on this beat -
He had a strong mind, he used to philosophize
about rhymes while he was pruning his Banzai
He claimed that he had written the greatest rhyme of all time
but he would never take it out his archives

Stoupe blends this raw epic beat sumhow wid no scratchin no pause no nothing the beat changes and u cant even finger where into a truly unique beat, if u head it by itself u wouldn’t think it to be a rap beat, but canibus rides and his lyrics are clearer and you hear the dopeness that this album encatures..fav lines on this beat -
Allow me to speak figuratively, n***a please
my intellectual properties are about the size of Greece
Your counselor advised you not to speak
my counselor advised me to keep rhymin until they stopped the beat
In the words of Joseph Heller, "I learned how to write better"
even though it sort of urked me
He said he didnt understand the process of the imagination
but he felt he was at its mercy

Beat changes but it is more obvious..dopeness I like the uniqueness of this aswell...this is maybe the weakest beat of the track, but the 2nd most lyrical…canibus rips this beat with insightful slef-glorification and raw philopherisation…
I should leave this rap s**t alone
and kick my incredible in rhymes in the privacy of my own home
My imagination is my own
delibity to speak to freely lyrically on the microphone
Wit a pen in my hand, I bring motion to the enyogram
and become "Cani-millenia man"
Grave my back with the emperor's stamp
been spittin scientific rap since the 17th century began

Beat changes back to the 1st beat and Canibus kicks the rawest bar, on some common sense type notion he spits:
Since it hiphop became a lucrative profession theres a misconception
that a movement in any direction is progression
Even though of the potency of it lessens
big money industries writing checks to suppress the question

These bars have stuck in my head since the first time I heard this track along with:
I'm convinced now that more then truth is at stake
Where people create language that pretends to communicate
Euphamisms are misundertood as mistakes
but its a bi-product of the ghetto music we make

On this 7 minute plus raw sickness…. 'Poet Laureate II', Canibus is ripping apart 3 beats, with Stoupe mixing them up seamlessly at points in the track. Canibus adapting his flow to each individual beat is something that needs to be heard to be believed. This is actually if I had to say, probably in my top 5 hiphop tracks of all time, it is that good….

Peace
