i need some help, i jus started recording, i got like a 30$ sony mic at future shop, but the recording is bad, would buying a new soundcard get me drastically better results?

i use acid pro 4 to record
what else would improve the recording?

you need a better mic...and a pro soundcard.

get a condenser...if you wanna stay on the low end...get a Studio Projects B-1 - 79.00 and really decent quality...

you need a soundcard too...M-Audio Delta 44 is one of the best...

or u can get a MXL 990 condensor for $65. Youre still gonna need a preamp. If you're low on cash you can get a Nady Phantom adapter for around $60 then u can get a tube preamp later and sell the Nady. But a pro sound card is a must. Delta 44 is the best but I also recommend the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinumfor around $200. It's a little more inexpensive. I have the Audigy and see no reason to upgrade it. Just make sure you use updated drivers. Check ebay.com for the Audigy. Theres usually really good deals on there for those. Get all the rest of your audio gear from musicians friend.com. they always have the lowest prices. Also dont buy a new mic without getting a boom stand and a pop filter. They should run you about $20 each on musician's friend. Also if you can afford it don't skimp out on the mic cable. again Musicians friend has a very wide variety of Mic cable. if you gotta be cheap they have 20ft cable for $7.99

if your gonna cop something cheap make SURE ITS NOT THE GODAMN PRE-AMP....it MAKES THE RECORDING sound how it SOUNDS...everyone buys a delta 66 ($250) a AT - 3035 or rode nt1000 or something along those lines ($300) and then proceeds to buy a $50 pre-amp...

Buy either a soundcard WITH MIC PRE-AMPS BUILT IN or a DELTA and a GOOD pre-amp....

and you can literally spend $100-$200 on a mic and get alot better results...

TRUST ME...a DOPE pre-amp and sound card and an ok mic are ALOT better than a $1000 mic and a factory soundcard...

please kill yourself for suggesting its a piece of shit. I've had ZERO problems with the new drivers. If you have good equipment it does the job. I was gonna eventually switch it out but really dont see the need.

um the audigy platinum card is designed specificly for recording. And if your using a digital mixer or other audio equipment with optical outputs then the Audigy Plat. becomes one of the best choices. And its 2ms latency is near perfect for realtime recording. It's midi setup is one of the best for use with midi controllers. And it is THE BEST option for consumers to record for DVD Audio. Its optical loop and midi interface alone is worth having in a home studio. They even designed the external card Specificly for musicians with no open cd slot or with a laptop. No one but musicians would have a need to buy this card. It was made for musicians. The audigy sound card was originally geared toward gaming but they designed the platinum interface with new drivers for midi and recording from multiple sources at once. If your doing anything other than recording from a mono source the delta card is worthless. BTW the Delta 44 and 66 are basicly the same damn card but the 66 has updated drivers and firmware. The differences were barely noticable in all performance tests.

You might think you know all about recording equipment. I know my shit too. and i especially know computer equipment and wut each device is made for. Its my day job to sell this stuff. I build pcs for many different markets, one of which is musicians. I read many reviews and testing info from professional sources before buying a product. Then I test it myself. Dont argue with me about knowing my equipment, because I could probably tell you the exact limitations of every major sound card on the market... as well as video cards, cpus, hard drive rpms, dvd/cd drive speeds, true cd/dvd burning speeds, driver/OS interaction, etc.

Just because you didnt like a piece of equipment.... possibly because you didnt have the proper pc to handle it, dont try to make someone else look like an idiot. Someone might just have a different opinion than you.

DOG....your missing the fucking point....NO SOUNDCARD on the FACE of the fucking earth is going to be considered "studio" or "amature" quality for recording when its not capable of 24/96 recording
