well thats a good mic but u dont wanna use that nice mic with a cheap preamp. if anything spend extra dough onthe preamp. also wut are the computer specs. u should have atleast a 2ghz processor with 512mb RAM. 40Gb hdd.

wut kind of sound card? this is extremely important. If u dont have a good sound card dont waste money on a good mic and preamp.

holla

A.) you cannot upgrade the CPU any further than 700mhz most likely if its a 500. BUT a 500 WILL work for recording.

You wanna invest in as much RAM as possible and yes a 40GiG HD at minimum (MAKE SURE ITS 7200 RPM!)

PLEASE understand that the RAM being at least 256 (PREFERABLY 512) and the HD being 7200 is SO IMPORTANT to RECORDING!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

with that ram and hd speed...you can get away with 500mhz (ive seen people use less)

with that said...onto the pre-amp and mic

ok...wow...did ya not figure this out yourself dog....$900 mic / $30 preamp...

c'mon now!

thats like taking a lexus and putting a hyundai engine in it!

ok..being that it looks like you have like $900 to spend here

buy this:

Pre-amp / Soundcard :

Digidesign Mbox ($450) or M-audio Omni studio ($430)

Mic:

Rode NT2 ($400) or AKG C4000B ($450)

PLEASE dont plug a $900 mic into a $40 pre-amp

and also

PLEASE dont plug a dope mic and pre-amp into a shitty sound card

this is why i suggest the soundcard/pre-amp all in one solution with the mbox or omni

.pz.

dawg u need a whole new pc IMO. I doubt your mainboard will utilize as much memory as you need. and as cheap as pc parts are these days you might as well just upgrade your shit. Here's what I recommend for you:

Mainboard
ASRock M266 G-SALM P4 Socket 478
- onboard video/audio/LAN
- included 56k ASR modem
(Maximum price - $50 after shipping)

Processor
Pentium 4 Celeron Processor
- between 1.7GHz and 2.0GHz
- Socket 478 <<< Very Important
(Maximum price for 1.7GHz - $65 after shipping)
(Maximum price for 2.0GHz - $80 after shipping)

Memory
NANYA Memory
- 512MB
- DDR 266MHz <<< Do NOT settle for 133MHz
- ECC
(Maximum price - $80 after shipping)

Hard Drive
Western Digital Ultra ATA-100
- 40GB 7200RPM
(Maximum price - $50 after shipping)

PC Case
AsiaPro V70 Mid Tower ATX Case
- 430W Power Supply
- Front Access USB (2 Ports)
- Intel Pentium 4 Support
(Maximum price - $40 after shipping)

Tips:
- Use the parts and brands I have described. Do NOT buy a PC from Dell, Gateway, HP, or Sony. Build your own.

- If you want more hard drive space do not replace the 40GB HDD. Add another hard drive as a slave drive to your PC.

- Do not load any unnecessary programs on your PC such as games.

- Use either Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional. Stay away from Windows 95, 98, and Me

- Update ALL software and drivers as you install them. Make sure you update Windows BEFORE you install anything else

- Do not put your programs and data on the same hard drive partition. Either create 2 partitions on the same hard drive or use 2 separate hard drives.

This PC should cost no more than $300 and should be more than enough to power your studio. I sell the exact PC with 48x CD-RW, Floppy Drive, 75 CD-R discs, Windows XP Pro, Norton Internet Security 2003, Norton System Works 2003, and CD Creator 5 Platinum for $350. I sell a lot of these PCs. They are EXCELLENT systems. So if you're not sure how to configure this stuff properly, feel free to contact me.

and wut we're telling u is without the pc your other equipment will be useless. but for your sound card get the Digidesign Mbox. It has a built in preamp so it's 2 birds with one stone. Mic choice is just a preference that you will have to decide on. But the mics that alcatrakz recommended are decent. the mic u pickd out is an excellent choice tho. But we're trying to tell you not to connect your mic into a shitty preamp. and dont connect ur preamp into a shitty sound card. And dont connect ur sound card into a shitty PC. ake our rcommendations very serious and you will be extremelyhappy with the outcome. If you don't listen you're gonna be pissed later. TRUST US...

Build yourself a decent PC...
Then buy a good sound card/preamp...
then buy a good mic.
Make sure you buy a pop filer and tripod boom stand

...Do it in that order

thats a common misconception. That was only true back in the 423 pin days of pentium 4 when Celeron didnt use the same bus speed. Now most benchmarks show that celeron processors actually outperform the Pentium 4 in some tasks. Any negative info you've read about the Celeron is outdated by about 2 years. And don't get an AMD. The AMD is the cliche for going against the system. They are only better in overclocking, which I doubt you would do on a studio PC. And even when you overclock them the benchmark differences are virtually unnoticable. but the only difference between the celeron and the Pentium 4 is the onboard memory. If you have enough RAM in your PC there should be no difference. They're both made by intel and both have the same core. Paying more than double for the Pentium 4 is idiotic at best.

Opey, Im a Business Computer Information Systems Major. Im not talking about 2 year old info.

Think about it dog. WHY do you think the celeron is 1bout 1/3 th price of a p4. For shits and giggles?

In my opinion, stay away from the celeron. Just invest the money in the p4 or AMD. And no AMD is not simply a reason to "go against the machine" wherever you read that from, obviouslly someone was writing with a bias towards intel

I have always used AMD chips since building my own computers, and I have yet to have a problem. BUt i KNOW alot of people that have celeron chips that, yes may work real well, but for a whole 6 months, then all of a sudden they dont know why they cant get their computer to turn on

jsut my 5 cents

the going against the system thing is because everyone that says "o AMD is so much better than intel" is an overclocker and only uses open source programs. they do everything against the grain like use linux when they dont even know how. But as for Celeron, I have been putting these processors in PCs for 2 years now. I bet Ive sold over 800 systems with that processor in them and never had one problem with them. Also, have 3 computers running with them right now. They're all on 24/7 and I've had them for about a year. I've had no problems. I build PCs for all my extended family members and theyve never had a processor related problem. Infact, the only problem I've ever had with any processor was when I accidentally hit the switch without the cpu fan being on... insant destruction lol... and that was an old AMD. The ONLY difference in the 2 chips is the onboard memory. THATS IT! There is NO other difference whatsoever. They are 1/3 the price because they have 1/3 the memory. I know what I'm talking about here. As you will one day realize, I never talk out of my ass. BTW I'm a computer science major... and not pokin fun at your major but you can start out in the CIS field with a general Associates Degree.

anyway... i respect your opinion but my opinion is to not waste your money on the Pentium 4. Matter of fact you can buy your PC through me. I always back my hardware with a 3 year warranty. I'll replace the chip everytime it breaks. But if you do have a problem you will be the first.
