Freestyling????

How can you tell if some1 is freestyling?... 2 many times i hear some1 like the diplomats.... nas.. any1! say theyre "freestylin" and 2 days later i hear the same shit on a written record

how can you tell whether its real or pre written... and who are the best REAL freestylers?

Mad Spasm 08-31-03 04:13 PM

u cant bcause ppl r gay

biglou323 08-31-03 09:16 PM

I think the only way of seeing someone freestyle is at rapbattles where they dont know what there opponent is, also when they counter there opponents verse thats the real shit... Otherwise I know what ya mean.

G. Buttersworth 08-31-03 11:01 PM

nah you can tell.. when either they repeat the same bar, more than once...

or when they have mad fillers.

most fake freestyles are too structured... like they have gimics in they're bars. lloyd banks does this alot. like you can tell.. when these dudes spit they're bars, you can tell by the way they spit it, that they spit the same verse before.

DeadlySilence 09-01-03 12:33 AM

You can basically tell if someone freestlyin if they look like they thinkin. If they head down and shit like that they are freestylin. If they are just looking at the crowd and enjoying themselves with an ease like they aleady knows this then it it fake, prewrittin, or bitten shit.

INsanity 09-01-03 01:05 AM

yeah or you can fuckin look and see if anyone in they crew is mouthin the words along with them. can remember who it was was in the booth with bigg tigger and this cat was "freestylin" and tyou could fully see the other man from his crew mouthin the words along wit him. i have to say that is so fuckin whack. and yeah pretty much you can tell by the facial expression on some ones face if they really free-ing or not.

2hOt4tV 09-01-03 12:45 PM

CUz of the sound of the Song [i think] but when u see a nigga sayin a lot like [oh uhu, huh, what what] most of times is freestylin'

C-Section 09-01-03 09:48 PM

its easy to tell if someone is freestyling. if someone is perfect on flow and they use huge words and still flow perfectly. its probabley pre written, even with small words you will go off flow sometimes.

wogzta 09-02-03 07:15 AM

u can pretty much tell by how they look...theres no way a human being can spit sumthing from the top of their head and be enjoyin themselves....its human nature to panic and go off flow and keep a strained face under pressure...if there spit is perfect in every aspect except PERSONAL insults towards the opponent, then u know its pre written cos its all great except for the fact that when they wrote it they didnt know who they were battling

Ruttah 09-02-03 07:33 AM

It depends, some people freestyle but every now and then slipp in a few pre-written lines and then carry on with the freestyle. I've found it easier to do this when actually on the mic than freestyle all of it. It helps to start with a pre-written two lines to see if your flow suits the beat and then freestyle. This helps your overall perfromance cos it gives the rapper a bit of confidencecos the scariest bit on stage is just before you spit, your head sometimes goes balnk, so if you kick a pre-written first two lines, that "frightened that you'll fail feeling goes" and then ideas and fresh shit just pops up ready for you to spit. If any one agrees with this just say, cos it's good advice for people who wanna get on stage.

You can also see if someone is freestyleing because if their battling and come out with a sick verse, straight from the top of their head, after their 8 or 16 bars or 30 seconds or however long they have to spit, you can see the amazement of how they thought o that line.....you can also tell because freestyle verses are useually less complex than pre-writtenz.....exept for people with ahuge vocab EG/ Keith Murray,Biggie etc

Hit this up with what ya think on my advice and views

Nefarious 09-02-03 08:10 AM

i'm not sure if i can tell unless i see they're doin it right in front of me...then i see if they use any of the surroundings as their word play....nah mean?

SyScoL 09-03-03 12:53 AM

if they stutter and shit a bit probably......and give them a pic of sumone theve never seen.....so they can think it on the spot

AB/CD 09-03-03 06:26 PM

nobody really freestyles, everything was on their mind already or they had it written, either way im the only rapper that can freestyle so fuck yall niggaz

wogzta 09-04-03 07:31 AM

^ if u werent so dumb id shoot u right now, but u make me laugh...nice job

MR. LEGEND 09-04-03 03:26 PM

I agree with all of the above. None of the established artists freestyle anymore. It's risky, If they are like me sometimes it's hot and sometimes it's not. So why risk it? A lot of people think freestyling is a judge of the talent, but it is actually a talent in it's self. For someone to make up a rap song THAT MAKES SENSE 5 RHYMES totally spontaneous, is talent. To actually add styles and punches like Mos Def is fucking amazing!

Did anyone catch him and wordsworth standing on the ledge going back and forth? that shit was amazing. And they stayed on subject.

I throw written shit in my freestyle to get me started to. Whenever I go blank, I just spit something pre written to start it back up. I got a bunch of songs where I just freestyled the whole fuckin thing. (5-8mins). it wasn't top notch Legend shit bu tit was fun.

Split~Barz 09-04-03 03:39 PM

Compare their Written To Their Freestyling...youll be able to tell if u listen carefully....

Ricochet. 09-04-03 05:45 PM

^Hmm maybe...

and i kno freestyles are risky but when they say they are reestyling they should freestyle.. if they are pre writting they should say so.... why should a real freestyler be compared to a pre writer.. shit isnt real @ all
and yeah makin freestyles funny and interestin is hard but with practice it becomes a lot easier.. i think im aiiiight lol

.. just found out Big L's freestyles on kazaa were written :(

MR. LEGEND 09-04-03 06:03 PM

Yeah, but theres a difference on how things should be, and the way things really are. Would you yourself risk your credibility, album sales, respect. On an off the top ramble about nothing. I heard somebody say (on one of these shows) a freestyle is something the people haven't heard yet, wether it's written or not. BULLSHIT!!

Ricochet. 09-06-03 04:36 PM

If i couldnt freestyle then i wouldnt risk it.. BUT i would say.. ima drop somethin 4 yall now... i wouldnt say "this is a freestyle" and LIE.. you feel?
its like J-Z says he freestyles.. actually says he does.. his shit is wriiten though = lieing
after a rapper lies about that its hard 2 give them credibility anymore

Illynice 09-08-03 06:10 PM

big l's shits were written?

Alchemy 09-08-03 08:01 PM

You can tell if someone is not freestylin if they aint trying. If they just standing there with a vacant expression on their face then you know they aint freestylin.

Tundah 09-29-03 10:57 PM

actually i have to agree with what ab/cd said. most people dont freestyle anumore, most of the crap people write have been thoughts that they built on or stuff they pre wrote.

VietSnake 09-30-03 12:54 AM

hmm... what's so bad about writing a freestyle anyway? who cares. whatever you wanna spit just spit it. prewritten or not. makes no difference. just make sure you don't screw up or anything. ya dig?

MultiVersEal 09-30-03 03:52 AM

yall are gettin shit mixed up. most of the freestyles you see on tv.. think of them as special edition joints. they a mix of prewritten stuff and simple off the top shit. the only true freestyles you will see is at the lunchtable, street corner, in the theater waitin for a movie to start, etc.

freestyle battles: look for a guy to point out shit about the other guy. the guy with the mic will most of the time be lookin at the other guy (sometimes blankly) or faced towards the other guy but lookin down. they arent really looking theyre tryin to ignore their vision and concentrate on rhyming and flowing.

somethin to help off the top skills... look at shit in a room. describe it, compare it to other things in your room. i built up my skills without ever listenin to beats. when theres no beat you have less to concentrate on. after you get good off the top put in the beat. well thats just me i always freestyle drunk or high anyways.

Trah Siph 09-30-03 06:01 AM

it's hard to freestyle so many write there lyrics and pretend that thery're freestylin'..........................eg Diplomats.....claim but never true

wogzta 09-30-03 06:57 AM

MP5K, you practise it the same way i do... i always found doin it with a beat too hard, then i added in a simple beat and it gets easier... right now my only problem is improving my lyrics, but i rekn soundin good but with crappy lyrics is better than havin the best insults in the world but with a crap delivery

/:Ayura:\ 09-30-03 12:08 PM

Freestyling is aload of bullock. i admit to it, i dont freestyle i pre-write my shit.

its not about who strikes first but about who strikes the hardest - canibus

Dj Silver_Sir-Fa 09-30-03 12:27 PM

Its Easy to tell,
Just listen, i mean, no matter how good a freestyler you are,
its very hard to spit a solid verse, Freestylers have alot of variation in the tone of their voice, and their structure is scattered....

wogzta 10-01-03 03:06 AM

^ sad but true.... but i guess the only way to get better at it is to practise

Kost 10-01-03 03:18 AM

what was sad about the preceding fellas statement?

no theres a question for ya

*Y_nOt* 10-01-03 03:35 AM

nah you can tell.. when either they repeat the same bar, more than once...
