b/c i heard somethin about them needing to be bigger than they actually are when they print them when u send em to the printing company...

But man seriously.. It can be whatever... With images like a cd cover, its usually best to create the image in a real high resolution like 1000x1000 then downsize it before you print. |

wrong.
its not 500 pixels or anything close to that, it depends on the printer and on the dpi your working at. Doing what Nos said would work best as at a high dpi it would keep good quality. The correct size would be 4.75inch X 4.75inch at 300 dpi .

you start bigger.. then you make the actual thing smaller when you're done

Or...better yet, dl a program that automatically sizes it for you. When printing covers from home, that is probably your best bet. But if you don't have a program or you can't find one, then like Daubs said, 4.75 in x 4.75 in at 300 DPI resolution. You can get away with 200, but 300 is better.
When sending it to a company it doesn't really matter cuz they will resize it for you.
