Sellouts
there are alot in this game Sellout ('sel-"aut), n. One who voluntarily contributes, or honestly wishes to contribute, to the growth and/or success of a corporation for the purpose of personal gain while simultaneously sacrificing principles or personal liberties. Need an example? "If I could pay a few dollars to get alot of money while using perfectly legal tactics and only pissing of idiots who have nothing else to do; i would do it." This is a sellout. I would not, for any price, place any kind of Album add voluntarily. Not even if it was a single pixel, it would not happen. Allow me to explain why. When you place an album(rap) ad on your page, you are being paid to advertise something. Therefore, you are basically barred from expressing negative feelings towards whatever it is you're advertising, under the penalty of having your cash flow taken away. This is censorship. It is immoral, and if the government did it, it would be illegal and unconstitutional. There's also the issue of annoyance. The point that "only idiots even notice ads" is completely idiotic, since they do cause a great deal of actual, tangible damage, as well as moral issues. If I go to a webpage and a million popups open, what happens? I need to click through and close them all. No big deal, I've got time. Suppose I was at work. Every click of the mouse through those ads is wasted productivity that could be earning me more money. The ad companies are taking my money from me. Suppose I was doing homework or research. Every click of the mouse through those ads is wasting valuable time and energy. The ad companies are taking my education from me. If enough ads open on a bad enough machine, it could crash. The act of crashing computers is illegal. If the company making and distributing those ads is making a profit, then they are profiting from the annoyance and wasted time of every person who sees the ad. This is an unethical business practice, and when done offline is illegal. Why would anyone want to voluntarily place an ad on their page in order to make money? I'll tell you why: They're jackass sellouts. Any page I see with a non-mandatory ad on it is going in my block list, never to be visited again. I won't even bother to go into spyware here, everyone knows about it by now (and if you don't, then you have it). Man, I'm more pissed off now than when I started. Oh well. Comments ? |
