People should stick to using their credit cards rather than their debit cards. With credit cards, it's not really your money... you are just borrowing money from the credit card company and paying them back. In case of fraud, the most you would be responsible for is $50.

On the other hand, if someone gets your debit card and empties your bank account, you'll have no money until the bank refunds it.. meanwhile any checks you've written will bounce.

Debit cards in Canada are more secure than in the states though. We have a pin code protecting them so the money can't be accessed unless this pin code is known by the person with the card.
