To be successful, you do not need well written lyrics. Most "well written lyrics" only appeal to those who write and appreciate it themselves. Hence why so many of the best artists are underground and do not get discovered in a commercial sense. And know, you do NOT need to be original to sell. Look at Chingy, his style is used by so many artists and is one of the top selling artists around. Jay Z was one of the first to use the laid back style that many have tried to copy. You're acting like text sells, it doesn't, it's a hobby for most, a lifestyle for some (cough baron cough).
