READ: Downtime and Other Info
IP:
At approximately 10:02 PM on 8/14, the server that rapverse was on went down and the techs at the hosting company was unable to get it to reboot. A few hours later, they updated the support ticket saying it was a hardware issue and after messing around with it and swapping parts for another few hours, they decided that they were unable to get the server to boot back up. After talking to one of the guys on the phone, he said that because the server that we were using was different from the ones they are selling currently, we'd have to order a new server. After thinking about it, and when I was about to call them back to go ahead and order the new server and move over the data, they called back saying that company policy prohibited them from moving over the data from the old drive and that because we were using a high speed SCSI drive, they don't have any existing servers to accomodate that drive for them to just swap in the drive. In other words, the data from the past 24 hours or so is gone. Their "policy" is total bullshit and was supposedly put in place for liability reasons and I was told they provided backup services just in case of server isssues like this. Since we'd have to restore everything anyways, and we did have backups, I decided to say screw them and we are moving RV to a new hosting company. We have currently placed the site on a temporary server and will move it over when we have ordered and configured the new server. We have restored the backup from last night and will be reuploading the site in the next few hours.
Anyways, I've got to go and finish restoring everything. At this time, I'm going to have to say SERVERMATRIX/THE PLANET SUCKS. Their uptime is subpar compared to the other hosting companies we are using and at the same prices. Their support has been gradually getting worst, and they recently even raised prices for existing customers paying lower prices to get more cashflow. We had already moved another server we had with them away and with this hardware crash, we no longer have any servers hosted with them. We will ever host with them again? Maybe, but definitely not anything that is mission critical.
