well right now i got the mxl 9000 tube condensor doesnt need phantom power cuz its a tube mic wit its own power supply wit metal pop filter better then the pantyhose ones lol got a stand and those M- Mobile shits lol i plan to upgrade to a G5 apple comp wit a digi002 wit protools 7.0 ionno i might try & get an older one cuz its easier to get plugins for it... wit some moniotors "industry Standards" so i can start work o yeah ya boy is offically an audio engineer word.....

^^that's strange. I used to own an MXL 9000 tube CONDENSER that DOES need phantom power, since...it's a condenser lol. A warming tube isn't a power source, it's hardware that's used to change the sound of ones voice.

ohhh yeah, the 9000 had some big ass box with like 7 or 9 or pins on it's XLR in it and the included 240v power supply that was heavy as fidduck, which would mean it's not a condenser. You're right!


what sound qual you getting with it? I was getting less than stellar results with it, even after purchasing a presonus tube pre to mate with it and both just sounded umm..how do I put this..."not good". Cold when the warming effect on the pre was turned down low, and straight up muddy and like pure ass for the regions that the warming effect was turned up, which was like the back 3/4ths of the dial. How have you been making out with it?

its like..one session it will work fine..no clips or anything..u can have it at the same settin and it will fuck up sometimes..then if you're doin a hype track you try to turn it down so u wont clip..and then it just still sounds like poo..=\..so then u try to back away from the mic..and then it doesnt sound right..so i dunno..i just dont like it sometimes..but most of the time it can do ok..

If you want to escape clip on those amped tracks, have you considered turning the line-in volume down, and leaving the pre the way it was? That brings WAY more consistent results.

BTW, you don't have any of the volumes on any of your hardware maxed out do you? That = always a bad idea, just in case.

in that cas, the only thing you should be adjusting for volume is the line-in and mic vol on your computer THROUGH THE PROGRAM YOU'RE RECORDING IN. There's sweet spots for everything, even your volumes, since since quality as you already know, isn't the same at all volumes.
