get in with a promoter who doesn't think you're wack. they'll get you gigs "headlining" as you like to put it, but in actuality you'll be the only act so, what else is there to do but headline it?

take it from me. im not just a top grade engineer, im also a club promoter

1.Get a decent manager
2.Get a promotions manager
3.LOOK FOR VENUES!!!

for now since i'm guessing you dont have the biggest fanbase. If you want the attention get some guap rent a place out and make a big event out of it.....thats what me and my bois are doing this month

nah man not at all... thats the WORSE thing to do when starting out, managers only come in use when you looking at big money, and even then they try and rob you which is why you need to find a very trusted one. promoters are going to give more respect and chance to a cat they never heard of that approaches them themselves, has atleast somewhat of a business manner about them sothey come across as professional ya get me, but theyd give less respect to sum1 whos payin some suit wearing stiff to use his contacts to push them, doing that makes the artist or group look lazy and as if they tryna take short cuts, take it from me mate, so many people hate that approach and anybody who takes it cos its not YOUR hardwork thats moving you, its the next mans and his contacts.

best way about it is, start off as a supporting act to help build up ya rep, then as somebody mentioned perform at smaller events/venues that will defo be happy having u as a headlining act, but also make sure when you do this your puttin out cd's left right and centre, so they can show their boys e.t.c which then gives u the "word ofmouth" rep, and obv try get ya shit on radio n that, and if u do this puttin in the time and work i guarantee youll eventually get to that spot where you want to be.

all i have to say is its all about your promoter....did he do enough to get your name around?.... and the fanbase thing aswell man is a nice idea....what i did was make alot of appearances on the local radio stations and mixtapes and little freestyle mini shows ya know....and ALOT of battles aswell....so when you do go perform...you "BECOME" the main attraction..

a good way to start with fanbase even though u might think its whack or something....but go to browse on your music myspace and just find as many people as you can in your area, and add them as friends and get your shit poppin locally "create a buzz" myspace is on the top 5 list of ways to promote music...once you are known locally people who know you know people and you start gettin contacts, and from there people will want to manage and promote you just because of your fan base and they want to make money off those fans that love you...just a start,

step 2) make flyers like 100,000 flyers...
step 3) drop'em off in every front door....
step 4) repeat step 2
step 5) travle a bit now or go to the next county and repeat step 3
step 6) make cd samples along with the flyers so people wont think they wast'in they time
step 7) try to get on a REAL MIX-TAPE, like DJ CLUE, DJ ON-POINT, DJ BIG MIKE, DJ KAY-SLAY ECT YOU GET THE POINT....
step 8) HOPE THEY COMES SO THE WORD COULD SPRADE FASTER
STEP 9) PRAY IT GETS BACK TOT HE RIGHT PERSON
STEP 10) EMBRACE FAME AS YA POPULARATY GROWS....

STEP 11) THIS IS THE MAIN STEP GUYS.... THANX YA BOY RANSUM FOR THESE IDEAS AND BRAKE HIM WITH LIKE 15 PRECENT OF WHATEVER YOU MAKE AND GIVE HIM BACKSTAGE PASSES... lol

^^I doubt anyone is getting shows big enough to do that. Most kids on this site are getting open mics and coffee shop shows and considering it shows. Some however actually do shows at small venues.

open mics are one of the best ways to start with your live rep, they give people a taster of what you can do but still leave them wanting more(provided you done ya thing right), if you do that, then thats gonna get you ya extra fanbase, the last open mic i freestyled at, i shouted out the myspace page so people can check the music if they wanted and came home the next day from work with over 100 friend requests on it. any promotion is good promotion, no matter how little or how big.
