I am sick and tired of everyone sleeping on Madlib/Quasimoto/Lootpack/Yesterday's New Quintent...
You people are missing out on quality shit, SO I will introduce you to these people.. Please If you are at all Interested In GREAT HIP HOP read through This shit. Madlib Armed with an SP-1200 sampler and several identities, Madlib has built a collection of beats, records, and unreleased tracks that is already becoming impossible to archive. Beginning in the early 1990's in Oxnard, CA, Madlib's distinctive crate-dug production has formed the basis of LPs for Lootpack, Quasimoto, and Yesterdays New Quintet. And that's just the Stones Throw stuff. Madlib Was Also A Feature In "Source Magizine( Which many don't know" A Very Informative Interview DEL's Funky review This is my Madlib personal Fav. Madlib, happens to be an avid Record collector, Digger.. whatever. "Blue Note Records" is probably one of the all time classic Jazz Labels. . . . And guess What? Lib Invades it. All these instrumentals are incredibly soothing and relaxing, The end result... Shades Of Blue Madlib - Slim's Return (Music Video) Click Here To Purchase "Shades of Blue" By Madlib . . . . Yesterday's New Quintet Only a mind as eccentric as Madlib's could invent not one, but five new alter egos to inhabit. Yesterday's New Quintet finds the producer behind the Lootpack and Quasimoto masquerading as Malik Flavors, Monk Hughes, Ahmad Miller, Joe McDuffrey and his true namesake, Otis Jackson Jr. Together, the five introduce one of the most unusual jazz/hip-hop fusion LPs ever as Madlib plays all the instruments included on the 19-track album. Programming from behind a trusty SP1200, he lays down percussion, bass and an army of different keyboards to craft the classic soul jazz record no beat digger has ever heard before. Unlike the sonic wallpaper laid down by Pete Rock and Jay Dee on recent albums, Angles Without Edges offers complete songs rather than glorified loops. The compositions include such classics as covers of Roy Ayers' "Daylight" and Ramsey Lewis' "Sun Goddess," as well as more obscure fare like Walter Bishop Jr.'s "Keeper of My Soul," plus several originals like "The One Who Knows" and "Broken Dreams." Though the album is intriguing, it's not for everyone as Madlib invokes ambiance somewhere between the improvisational freedom of jazz and the rhythmic anchor of hip-hop. His songs are neither balanced in both worlds nor completely thrown onto one side. But like his well-received Quasimoto persona, Yesterday's New Quintet is another dimension (or five) of Madlib's persona. And the experiment proves equally provocative as he slathers you in the funky warmth of Angles' soft, gilded folds. DEL's Funky review This album is straight ridiculous. I mean I can write a whole bunch of bunk shit, Which I will. ![]() This is along the same line as "Shades Of Blue", a lot less authentic alot more sureal and dreamlike. Instrumentalization on this album is out of the fucking world, Its an audio masterpiece. Some faults, The album tends to get tedious at points, but the music is incredible nonetheless....The track "Sun Goddess" is the most beautiful thing I may have ever heard, No joke. Here Are Some Tracks For Your Pleasure Yesterday's New Quintet - Uno Esta (Single) Yesterday's New Quintet - Life's Angles Yesterday's New Quintet - Papa Click Here To Purchase "Angles Without Edges" By Yesterday's New Quintet . . . . Quasimoto Quasimoto You can't see him - he's The Unseen. But you can hear him. And that's good news for lyric freaks and beat junkies everywhere. And what kind of voice it is? A tree-blazin' ghetto chipmunk? A cartoon Martian plotting Earth's destruction with a sonic assault? Naw, it's neither - but close. Maybe try taking an astrotravellin' hit of the killer Cali green and stuffing Kleenex up your nose like Redman used to do while getting tube-fed straight from a helium tank. A little closer now, but still not quite. When Quasimoto began his recording career with dusty-fingered Lootpack beat-excavator Madlib about sometime around 1996, it was never with the intentions of letting the masses hear it. The boom music made by the dynamic duo might have never made it past Madlib's personal tape deck if it wasn't for the "begging" of Peanut Butter Wolf who eventually got his way and hooked it up for Stones Throw Records. And To Let Everyone Know The Obvious . . . MADLIB IS QUASIMOTO Quasimoto has been spotted at various albums, Jaylib, Lootpack . . . His erhm ITS first Album (and only at the moment) "The Unseen" DEL's Funky review Oh Goodness . . . Well to start, I do not smoke weed but if I did this Album would be the one I lay back to . . .Madlib/Quas tag team each track magnificently. This whole thing has lots of character, Amazing Concept Album. . .Music is Grimmy and Melodic and Souful at points . . . Not On the same level as "Shades Of Blue" or Madlibs other efforst but still spectacular. Overall If you are a Fan of great Hip Hop, You need this. And more specifically you need this if you enjoy a more different comedic approach towards music. Check Out These Music Videos-> Quasimoto - "Come On Feet" (Music Video) Quasimoto - "Good Morning Sunshine" (Music Video) Click Here To Purchase "The Unseen" By Quasimoto . . . . Lootpack The state of underground SoCal hip-hop, circa 1999. Bolstered by the scintillating production skills of producer Madlib, Lootpack provide a winning alternative to the slick materialism and excessive violence of the mainstream scene. With DJ Romes cutting behind them, emcees Madlib and Wild Child showcase their tight flows and creative wordplay as they "attack the wack" and represent the west O-X (Oxnard, California). Other underground heavies join the party, including Dilated Peoples and Tha Alkaholiks. Sure, this isn't the game-changing masterpiece that underground heads claimed it would be, and the lyrical themes don't stray too far from run-of-the-mill emcee boasting. Still, with Madlib supplying the endless array of funky and freaky beats, it's hard not to be won over by the album's big-time bounce. Lootpack - Soundpieces Da Antidote DEL's Funky review RAW . . . Right off that bat this album reminds me off some Jurrasic 5, Digable Planets, Dilated Peoples type shit. Madlib/Wildchild are lyricaly nice, Beats are Grimmy and hard. This album doesn't particulary shine in any aspect, Its good though. I think alot of people here will love this group Lootpack -Whenimondamic (Music Video) Click Here To Purchase "Soundpieces Da Antidote!" By Lootpack If You Like The Artist Above Check These Peeps Out Jaylib, Wildchild, Peanut Butter Wolf, Dudly Perkins, DJ Romes Stay On The Lookout For Madvillian Album (Madlib+MF Doom), New Quas Album, More Madlib Collabo's ![]() On a closing note, I would reallly apprieciate it if you guys checked these artists out. I mean its not harming you, You will be glad you did. -DEL The Loving Funky Jazzmaster Of RB Last edited by DEL the funkee : 12-24-03 at 01:53 AM. |

Are you the perfect woman or what? and D-Dizzle, Only reason I didn't give a full review of "Champion Sound" is because people will not like that album if they aren't a big fan of Stones Throw other works. Plus that album isn't all that great to begin with. |

People like you are the main reason why these artists aren't known as much. Just want to keep them as your little private artist. More than five people knowing about an artist does not push the guy out of the "underground clique." Thanks for posting this up Del. I know of them but have heard little to nothing about/from them. |
