Can your commanders legally order you to your death? I'm not talking about sending you on a mission that could POSSIBLY cause your death. I mean, are they authorized to literally order you to do something that's 100% likely to cause your death? And, if they can, can you refuse to do it?

The question isn't vague. I asked could they order you to do a suicide mission. That's a pretty darn clear question to me. I don't know an exact mission. The question is, is it LAWFUL for a commander to order you to your death?

was in for a year, so basically I was just in BCT then AIT my MOS was 45G (fire control repair) which consisted of removing, replacing, and repairing circuit cards in laser-guided tank components my BCT was at Ft. Leonardwood, Misourri AIT was Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland (near Baltimore) and if I'd stayed in my duty station would've been Fort Campbell, Kentucky what brought you to ask this question?...and it does seem vague to me = | I answered it as best I could from the question you asked |

The question is not vague. But, I'll rephrase it for the people I intended to answer it. Does the military have the legal right to order a soldier to do a suicide mission? And, I'm not referring to a hypothetical suicide mission. I'm talking one where death is certain.

mostly special ops people do all those classified missions with extra high risks, you sign up for that and know the risks when you get in there but generally, if you follow orders and do what you're told you'll be okay...the risks are lined out to them before they go on a mission like that but those people are usually gung-ho and don't turn down missions like that but in general...no, they can't put just the average soldier on a high risk mission...besides, if death is "guarunteed" you won't be doing whatever "it" happens to be

You made sense up to the last sentence. Japanese used Kami Kazi pilots during WW2. So, purposely flying planes into objects would be doing "it" if that was the mission. I'll wait for another opinion because my question still wasn't answered. Is it within the military's legal rights to plan suicide missions for soldiers? And, I'll even add this. Would the U.S. ever resort to Kami Kazi type tactics in war? Special Ops is hypothetical danger. That's exactly what I WASN'T referring to. hmm |
