Get them to pay attention...they're not gonna pay attention to you just because your saying you've done x amount of shows, n' you appeal to _____ kind of people. Get people to call in for your shit...not just one or two friends, I MEAN A LOT of people. Pester them outside the building with people chanting they wantyour song etc. But there's barely any point of getting played on the radio in itself because of the time you'll probably get played...your better off trying to get oppurtunities to perform, handing out your tapes to dj's etc. Then maybe when you built somewhat of a name try n get on the radio.

Well, logically you'd think that if you were able to get performances in major places or whatever and the turnout was decent, and they see that you have enough listeners, there would be a better chance that you could find the bigger producers and they would pay attention...which would put you a step ahead of the others who have done nothing worth mentioning. My mindstate was it's the same thing...in writing, you have to struggle to find a good publisher/agent out there, and you have to attract their attention --- and with the high supply of manuscripts (aka songs in this case), they're looking for people who have prior experience and could make their job easier. It's easy to assume the same rules would apply, and having people chant your name would in a good deal of cases put you in a bad position because that editor/agent/radio man gets hundreds of requests and having people constantly scream at them to play so-and-so, you'd think that person would be agitated.
You do have to admit I had a legitimate case...the similarities of getting yourself out there are astounding: 1. Both are constantly flooded with requests. 2. Both spend long amounts of time on going through these requests. 3. Both get thousands of amateur requests and they get agitated, and if they're in a bad mood from all these idiots submitting to them, they'll be picky at things like people calling them over and over. 4. Both are looking for a positive profit from the requests they do endorse: a good amount of listeners for a song, or a good amount of sales for a book. So it's a logical mistake to make that they would both go by the same basic code of conduct. But, you're the one with the experience in the music industry. |

lol @ pay them to play it.
fuck that, just have connections. Youl be suprised who knows cats at radios. or simply go to the radio station and be like, what up, im here. listen, play it. The worst they can say is no. Or simply create a independant fanbase in your area, get support tell them to request the song, all in time with you emailing them with your song and shit. And Im sure in the US they have unsigned hype nights on certain stations, we do in NZ. So yeh, get at them. |

^^hate to bust your bubble but nearly every song you hear on a mainstream station is there because someone paid for it. Peoples careers are built on it. it's called payola and it's common pratice.
